He gave out a pretty bad grilling to Hungary too.

To the point that there was an official diplomatic complaint that he had overstepped the mark.
Missed that whole story :/

One doesn't have to. One need never do anything. I wasn't there so I can't comment on who else was there but suppose there been some German families watching the game too in the same place?

My son saw some "funny" internet memes on the web about the German girl crying and he was pretty shocked.

It doesn't make me feel superior and was hardly a rant.
It's like the dead body on the tram - it saddens me when people just ignore these things as they don't like to 'interfere'.

I guess it's the way of the world.
I agree in general, but as you said we weren't there with Chuff and don't know exactly how bad things were. I hope nobody got hurt.
Football fans can be quite aggressive (mainly verbally, but not only) and if no-one gets hurt, addressing them is not the wisest thing you can do.

Unless you're a "Nonna", nonnas can get away with everything.
Can picture a little old lady admonishing the thugs "Don't you have any shame, you full grown-up men!!! Who raised you to be like that?" etc etc etc. I love nonnas, nobody can be more effective at these sort of things.

Chuff probably just avoided being punched in the face.

Re: Euro 2020

I think in normal times there is something escapist about sport , especially football.

Politics doing awful stuff , problems with the wife , problems with the boss . Just go to a football game with the lads and forget it all be yourself for 90 minutes plus all the pre and after party time .

That’s how it used to be .

But these days the line between sports and the rest of the world has grown thinner and politics have been crossing over into sports . Pent up anger over Brexit or its handling may make fans more angry at Germans than would normally be the case . The whole COVID thing and restrictions is changing football . The kneeling thing . All these have nothing to do with football but are being carried into football . Some maybe necessarily , others maybe unnecessarily . But it creates anger and frustration and the clubs are not doing much AFAIK to deal with it

Fundamentally he is not wrong but rather too specific. There is a lot of talk that fans attending games are leading to new infection peaks. Scottish fans, Finnish fans, probably more.

At least Luca is going to Leningrad, sorry St Petersburg….
The overlap between football supporters and antivaxxers must be significant.

Re: Euro 2020

We have an other football-euphoric neighbour here (the landlord used to make it an event for the whole street but not more) and he does the job as well as the landlord's bunch used to:
He shouts loudly when ever something happens. So all I have to do - not being interested in football at all - is quickly switch over to zattoo to see what he's shouting about.

So 1:1, Switzerland caught up with Spain. Back to my book ..... until he shouts again.

edit: Okay forget the book .... this is kind of addictive. Not sure it's very good for the heart though.

Who is the commentator? He's great fun, so much better than Thurnheer used to be.

It's well deserved red card. For such offense, in my view should not be allowed to play football anymore.
