Tokyo Olympics 2020

For the past one year, so many emotions and news around whether the Olympics should go ahead or not. During this time, I've felt a discrepancy on how things were reported here vs there, which got me frustrated.

The recent ones were how many athletes there have been who tested positive upon arrival (which proves why over 80% of the Japanese population had wanted it to be cancelled or postponed), Thomas Bach- President of IOC mistaking Chinese people for the Japanese people during his first official speech, how while there are still strict 14 days quarantine rules in place, Bach got out after only 3 days - and ...how he is staying at the Imperial Suite of Hotel Okura which costs USD27K a night. Somehow, these things haven't made much news over here, but had outraged people in Japan.

Many of my friends and family back home had shared there isn't much excitement over the Olympics....however, I have been watching the opening ceremony this afternoon, once in a while facetiming my family in Japan.
And I must say, I was overcome with emotions. I thought the first two acts of the ceremony was beautiful, kept simple, but with a message that is meant for everyone in the world, having dealt with the difficulties and the pain of having lost dear ones due to COVID.
The frustrations I have been feeling have faded, and instead, I feel for Japan, having had to deal with the pressure for the past year, and of course, ALL the athletes who live their lives for this moment. While I hope that COVID will not get out of hand, I am truly praying that the Olympic Games will end safely and wish all the very best to all the athletes from all around the world! May this be remembered as a very special and successful Game! <3

Re: Tokyo Olympics 2020

I love Japan.

I despise the IOC and what the Olympics have become. Thomas Bach is the twin brother of Sepp Blatter, just less likable.
