Yeah I saw this live but assumed something had happened earlier in the match else it was inexplicable how the player could be upset much less emotional over legitimate medical timeout
Yeah - no, no reason!

Her post-match pressy is on YT, she claims to have not been aware of her bleeding or getting injured which is a pretty weak response IMHO. Emma clearly pointed to the bleeding which was streaming down her leg and the umpire ruled for the medical timeout

The Canadian born Brit Emma, from qualifier to champion without dropping a set (27 games in total). Not sure we will see anything like that again anytime soon

And the final won clearly, in two sets, 6:4, 6:3.
Indeed, we won't see anything like this anytime soon.

Emma wrote history.

To be fair, I think we'll hear much more from both of them.

Terrifisch, I knew you would watch and root for these players...

Not at all. Not that interested in tennis.
Indeed.

But in fact, both are Canadians, even if one plays for the Brits (unless she's renounced her Canadian citizenship, which I doubt).

Finally natural players, and an end to the unimaginative power of the not-surprisingly injury prone "enhanced" Floridageneration with the Williams sisters, Sharapova etc.

Seems quite credible to me.
The statement matches Fernandez' mimicking Raducanu's first inspection of her knee when F. starts to speak to one of the judges. F. may not have seen the blood running down, unfortunately the cameras are on R. all the time until she's sat down, at which point her left leg may be hidden behind the bag to her left. When F is shown after R sat down F is grimacing "what a farce!".

See on SRF's live video, F's protest starts at 2:05:22.

I love the fact that neither moans all the time. I never watch Nadal, and many others, just because of their moans.

... I did watch match live, Raducanu been called down for medical assistance, she not insisted on this... Fernandez was absurd on revolting, as always those with injuries come of the bench much weaker psychic...also they met once in 2018 when Raducanu win in two sets...

Not sure who you mean by they and she, but the Williams sisters and Sharapova all trained in Florida.

It was actually 2016, when they met in the Wimbledon juniors and as you noted Raducanu won in 2 sets... In the press interview after the match, Raducanu said the chair umpire ordered the medical timeout as blood was oozing from her knee. She also said, she would have preferred to continue playing as it disrupts her rhythm as well. Especially as she was facing a break down 30-40.

I don't think this was gamesmanship in any way

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Williams took substances to enhance performance. I worked at the US Open back in 1997, I saw a young Serena on the practice courts with her Dad, Richard and Venus. Serena has always been a "big" referring to her musculature and Venus was always lithe and slim. Even back in the day Serena looked like a body builder..

Sharapova is a completely different issue altogether. Her Achilles' heel was ALWAYS movement and somehow she was prescribed Meldronium for a so called "heart issue" when she didn't have any heart issue. Meldronium also happens to help one's recovery and was eventually put on the banned list. But I guess Maria and her entourage took no notice or thought she could evade detection. That is why Sharapova was banned...

Sharapova was part of the Bolliteri machine in Florida but neither Venus nor Serena played in USTA tournaments growing up - nor did they grow up in Florida. They were raised in Compton CA and their Dad deliberately kept them out of the junior tournament "scene" - much to the ire of the USTA.

The pattern of injuries of Serena is consistent with that of someone with abnormal steroid levels, though perhaps that is innate in her case. But regardless there is this:
https://www.tennis.com/news/articles...use-exemptions

Like Sharapova, the Williamses trained in Florida since their teens. In fact Serena was nine when they moved to West Palm Beach to get some of their training at Rick Macci's academy, another questionable outfit if not as abusive as Bolliteri's.

Sharapova's misuse of meldronium can be linked back to the Russian part of her entourage. Meldronium is used more in Russia, and she claimed her team did not know it had recently been banned.

Wow! Thanks for that link...Interesting article. I did not know that the Williams family moved to Florida early on but I guess that makes sense...

PS.. Flying Kite, I was also wrong in my dates when Fernandez and Raducanu met in the Junior Wimbledon. You were right...It was 2018 not 2016. My bad as they say!

I think Medvedev is an acquired taste. He is unconventional that is for sure but I also think he is the only player whose craft and guile is a threat to Djoko. We shall see

No, it's not credible IMHO. I remember it vividly live and confirmed on the replay, they were getting ready for Emma's serve when she pointed to her knee (2:03:19) that was bleeding - it would imply Fernandez wasn't getting ready for the point and looking over at the server

I'm not sure even Raducana was aware initially she was bleeding after she scraped her knee, it was only when she was preparing to serve down a breakpoint when she saw it bleeding

Nevertheless, as I have said, the anger from Fernandez coupled with her getting emotional over it was bizarre. Sure, it was bad timing for her since she had momentum but it's a straightforward situation and surely knows her opponent well enough to not think this was gamesmanship

I was trying to read her lips as she complained but all I could make out was she was incredulous over it just being a scrape on her knee. Her post-match press conference was not believable either as she claimed she was not aware she had gotten hurt when clearly she was downplaying it to the umpire at the time

Yep, that's how it looked to me as well when I was watching live.

I'm quite sure Fernandez saw that Raducanu was bleeding and, therefore, "injured", because the camera showed her smirking (it wasn't the only time she smirked during the match), which suggested that she thought she had a chance to climb back.

In any event, despite the 5 minute medical time out, it was a bad bandaid job. The wound continued to bleed significantly through the bandage and it was very noticeable during the photos after the match.

I cringed throughout Fernandez's speech, the way she hogged the mike and played to the crowds, the way she almost rejected her trophy because it wasn't "the right one". Raducanu was gracious enough to compliment Fernandez on the game, but shame it wasn't reciprocated.
