My football-mad son and Liverpool supporter would love to see his team play a game at Anfield. Since his birthday is at the end of this season I have time to plan something for the start of the 2023-24 season.

The question is, how do I get tickets for a match? From what I can gather from the Liverpool FC website, tickets are available to non season ticket holders just 1 week before a match on a first come, first served basis. Given the logistics of flights and hotels I would like something a bit more solid.

I also looked at 3rd party ticket sites and the prices can be pretty high for a decent seat e.g. £250 each (£750 for an adult and 2 kids) for tickets which have a face value of £49 adult (and £9 for children).

Any Liverpool fan tips would be highly appreciated

Lifelong LFC fan (grew up just outside Liverpool) and sadly haven't seen them at Anfield for a long time. The only 2 ways to get a ticket really is either through the touts (sorry, package providers) or you 'persuade' a season ticket holder to 'transfer' a match day ticket. I heard recently this can be done via the official app but don't know the details.

If anyone else here ever finds a way to go to a game I'd be very interested.

In my experience it's basically as ipoddle already mentioned.

As an outsider your best bet is through a package deal.

The members help each other out with tickets for games all over Europe. It can get a bit sarcastic at times, but it seems to work.
