Anyone but England (for the World Cup)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/s...st/8533791.stm

"A company selling "Anyone but England" T-shirts for this year's World Cup has rejected suggestions it is racist after police in Aberdeen visited its store.... story continues"

Could you imagine the reaction if a reverse was done in another sport?

I think a t-shirt with Anyone But Togo and a picture of a bullet-riddled bus would have been worse.

Re: Anyone but England (for the World Cup)

I still have my "I am supporting Scotland (Jason Scotland)" t-shirt from the last world cup when england played trinidad and tobago.

As long as english commentators go on about '66, scots are gonna hope they dont win - i wouldnt be able to watch british tv anymore

Re: Anyone but England (for the World Cup)

frankly, I expect nothing less from our Jockish cousins from the north. And rightly so.

It's just a game and it's just banter.

The report also supports that plod on the street should have initiative removed.

Can you buy them online?

Re: Anyone but England (for the World Cup)

I remember at the Ashes series a dude sporting a T-shirt with "Go Australia and whoever plays England" on it.. got a few beer paid for by the Ozzies, but not much adversity...

How about a t-shirt with John Terry and Cashley Cole on it, caption will read:

Have you heard the latest football chant?

(To the tune of "Lord of the Dance")
"Chelsea, wherever you may be,
Don't leave your wife with John Terry"

First uttered by Hull fans, I believe.

Re: Anyone but England (for the World Cup)

Just another example of the incredibly annoying PC world we now live in. As for chants, there was another one a few years ago when Graeme Rix (also Chelsea) was sentenced for having sex with a 15 yr old girl. The Manic Street Preachers: "If you tolerate Rix, then your children will be next"

Although after today's game Wayne Bridge has sent a text to Terry telling him "this is how you play away"

Wayne snubbed Terry in the handshake but then let the football do the talking - it mainly said "Hello Chelsea Net"

Joe Cole in the background looks pretty unhappy, I wonder is John Terry and Ashley Cole double teamed his wife?

I like the way the English have now become a race.

It's a shame there has been a stink kicked up about it - I'm English and find the T-shirt idea funny and a carte blanche to come up with something better as a retaliation (of the banter variety).

As a jock, this makes me smile. It's a shame that other countries haven't developed the ability to laugh at themselves as the whole thing about the t-shirts would be a non-issue.

LOL... I think...

I'm absolutely not serious about nationality, and being of multiple origins I have several nationalities to choose from re "laughing at" (myself). I also do think this is over-PCism (no pun intended) at its worst.

However, my gripe is that this is not a two-way street.

I've seen and been subjected to abuse as an English person in Scotland. What I've seen was not said or done in jest. I have also seen and been subjected to "in jest" comments, which I've happily shared the moment with my Scottish friends and given back as good as I got. I believe I am able to distinguish the two.

Herein lies the difference for me: for a large minority (or small majority if the SNP would have you believe it) English-bashing as a result of historical and current slights is not a laughing matter, but something to be taken seriously and never forgotten. However if the reverse were to happen (i.e. an ABS shirt for the sake of discussion), English folk would be castigated.

It is the hypocrisy that gets me...
