FC Zürich or FC Basel

I was wondering what you thought of Zürich wining the Swiss Championship.
Thanks to getting 2 extra points on, what the swiss call, the grüne Tisch. Or do you think that FC Basel should have won?

Re: FC Zürich or FC Basel

over the season, the team winning more games (albeit getting a lucky 2 points because of St Gallen playing an illegible player) won.

it's only Swiss football, come on

Re: FC Zürich or FC Basel

Only because I love tortured football fans and things in life that aren't fair, here's what I wanted:

I wanted Zurich to draw and Basel to win, handing the Championship to Basel on goal difference. I would also have preferred this so that there were no celebrations in Zurich. Luckily there were only 2 or 3 flaccid types cruising around in their turbo-charged boy-racer cars fumbling with the hooter like a teenage boy with a bra-strap.

FCB have a far bigger budget than FCZ and never did too bad with refs and the Swiss FA when it comes to a little bit of help so well done FCZ

I hope FC Zurich meet Arsenal in the Champions League qualifiers (if that's possible) and pulverize them

Like this year, I don't think they will make it to the 3rd qualification round which is when they would play a team from one of the top european leagues.

Re: FC Zürich or FC Basel

So I spontaneously went to the Big Ben Pub with a few friends and the bar keeper snapped up a girl with a bunch of flowers because he thought that she's trying to sell them, which she didn't. After the FCZ victory, he rung the bell for nearly a minute but didn't serve free beer. I always thought that ringing the bell = to invite everybody for a beer, but I wonder if this is a continental Europe thing? Anyway, one bar less on the list.

The rest of the night passed without further incidents, except the lads shouting "Mäischter, Schwiizer Mäischter!" - Well I'm not that interested in the Swiss League but I'll root for Switzerland at the Euro next year, that's for sure!

Actually...there's a bit more to it. I hope FC Zurich take out Rangers first on their way to taking out Arsenal

I presume FC Zurich are pitched in at the second qualifying round where they could meet Rangers.

Missed the game last night as stayed late in the office. Caught glimpses of it while waiting for the 31 bus at Zurich HB where people were outside looking through the window. But only got back home for the last five minutes and then was disappointed to find out I could only watch the Basel game, when all the excitement seemed to centre around Zurich match.

It was a funny situation not being able to see what was going on in the other game, although I knew it was 1-0 as they had the score up and were obviously relating what was going on, but I couldn't understand it. When the Basel game had finished they started showing pitch side pictures and I though the Zurich lot were looking a bit confident going into the last minute or so. I'd obviously taken my eye off the score and not followed the fact that Zurich had scored again. I still thought it had been 1-0 till someone put me right this morning!

I thought 24th of may was a bit late to finish a league, but I've just seen the Spanish league doesn't finish till 17th June! I'm staying in Switzerland that weekend so I'll be up for going to see that final games somewhere that evening, perhaps followed by a little Karaoke in the Acapulco Bar

Re: FC Zürich or FC Basel

To answer your question I always prefer seeing a Zurich team lose so very clearly I would have preferred Basel to win. Too much in Switzerland is becoming Zurich focused ....just look at SF1, the news seems to focus on downtown Zurich.

It is Basel's fault as they had such a bad start to the season.

Have a good weekend

Martin

Re: FC Zürich or FC Basel

At least FCB won the Swiss Cup final. Hopefully, next year they will win the league next year. Shame that with the help of those extra 2 points that were gifted to Zurich that FCZ won the league.

Here's to next season

Have fun

Martin
