My ex-colleague, a football features editor in Malaysia, sent me an SMS to say, "Bullfighters failed to beat the cows!"

That was really cool!

75th minute-

Unbelievable. Switzerland go so, so close to doubling their lead as Eren Derdiyok twists and turns brilliantly inside a couple of defenders - it's a stunning run and after one shot comes back off the post, his rebound effort cannons into Gerard Pique. Incredible stuff.

In a city that's usually so peaceful (dreadfully quiet) it's nice to hear the shouts and car horns rising over the rooftops...

I nearly fell out of my chair when about 10 cars all hit their horns at the same time completely shattering the 'Swiss Silence'

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

Underdogs bite! The kids at the skating hall insisted I play the Swiss National Hymne, and then put their hand across their heart - what a sight.

Switzerland have beaten European champions Spain 1-0 in the first of three group matches of the 2010 football World Cup in South Africa.

Switzerland had not won their opening match at the World Cup since 1954, when they beat Italy 2-1.
