I just won a bet on Switzerland winning against Spain at odds of 13.5 to 1.

Now Spain has become less likely to win the tournament than Germany (according to the betting odds).

This could be Switzerland's most important world cup victory ever? The last time they won an opening game was in 1954 in Bern.

The odds of Switzerland winning the tournament are now 126 to 1. Perhaps worth a flutter given that they have just beaten the favourites!

Brasilien 6.25
Argentinien 6.50
Deutschland 6.50
Spanien 6.50
Niederlande 9.50
England 9.50
Italien 13.00
Frankreich 21.00
Portugal 29.00
Elfenbeinküste 34.00
Chile 41.00
USA 81.00
Paraguay 81.00
Ghana 101.00
Mexiko 101.00
Uruguay 101.00
Südkorea 101.00
Schweiz 126.00
Südafrika 151.00
Serbien 201.00
Dänemark 251.00
Japan 251.00
Nigeria 251.00

Griechenland 1000.00
Neuseeland 1500.00
Honduras 1500.00
Algerien 2000.00

Switzerland will not beat Germany. The latter should be attracting your money.

the decision of swiss referee against south-african goalkeeper is really unfair. The uruguayan player almost throw himself to exagerate.

It wasn't unfair. It was an awful, reckless challenge and deserving of the card and penalty imo.

Nope, not unfair. But it still made me go 'awwww, nooo!'
(sympathy for the underdog dies hard, even in the face of a lot of potential penalties...)

there is a lite contact that can't cause Sarez to fall, and i watched several times the replay and Suarez is definitely exagerating. anyway 3:0 is tough for them but it's over now.

Just heard the news about the Switzerland-Spain match. I'm not a soccer fan, but I know what this means and how good an opponent Spain is.

Glückwünsche! Félicitations! Congratulazioni! Congratulations!

I'll stick to supporting my home country's team. Until they're knocked out by Germany, on penalties.

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

Sadly, the Uruguay-South Africa match pretty much seals the fate of South Africaand puts a real damper on the rest of the tournament for the hosts.

But those of us who know something about football would have been more surprised if South Africa qualified for the knock-out phase. However, tournaments like these can be unpredictable (with Germany being forever the only exception) and perhaps a miracle will still happen. Big favourites Spain are no longer sure after losing to the Swiss yesterday. The French are rather tempremental too, so maybe South Africa can pull off at least one win.

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

I hate Diego Maradona, my 9 year old self will never forgive the fat, greasy, cheater for using his hand to score a goal.
However in his bonkers, drug fuddled mind he does occasionally come up with some gems.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2...a-pele-platini

Quote:
The Argentina coach Diego Maradona took a swipe at fellow greats Pelé and Michel Platini and also criticised the World Cup match ball at a press conference in South Africa......He said that Pelé should "go back to the museum"....."We all know how the French are, and Platini is French, and he believes he is better than rest."....."And, of course, there's the ball. I don't want to go into the ball again because everyone is talking about it, but it is important and it does play a part and I would ask Pelé and Platini to go out there and play with the ball and take a closer look at it to see if it's a good one or bad one, and to stop talking rubbish about me."
Agreed.
