Re: Usa!!!

Yes, I was glad the USA got through after having been robbed of those two goals! (I hate WC refing) Sort of like a universal justice, just like France being eliminated, and South Africa qualifying Good to see England get through too

Re: Usa!!!

OMG!! Don't even get me started. Their last two games have been total rubbish on the referee front! I have ben complaining about it to my husband. At least they made it on top, despite those wrong calls. Can you imagine wrongly losing our place for qualify!! Ugh. I am also glad to have bragging rights around the house!

Wuz we robbed?

(I wasn't watching that carefully... one eye on the game and the other on my knitting. If we make it through to the quarterfinals I will put the knitting away and watch closely, I promise.)

mrs G and I walked into a local drinking establishment last night just in time to see "_________" (don't know who ) kick the winning goal for USA.

p.s.. I'm American and mrs. G is English so we're both happy with yestd results.

I don't care who wins, as long as it is not the Germans I don't see the USA going all the way, but it is nice to see us stepping it up, and holding our own against some of the stereotypically "better" teams.

AND since I am sick this week and have lost my voice, I could only squeak at the pub in excitement. I have to put it in typing, so people know.

Yeah, 2 goals were disallowed, one in each of the first two matches, the reason given was that the players were off side, when in fact they clearly, with video proof, were not!

I understand that the ref and even the lines men can't see everything, but they have video footage to check everything, like in tennis and hockey.

When is football going to move into the C21?

The so-called disallowed 3rd goal against Slovenia was a travesty of justice in my opinion - I'm glad that you guys got through . . you really deserved it. Maybe we'll see you again later on . .

I'm not so sure about that, some of the teams really are better than most but there's no telling on the day.

Well I should say, the Self proclaimed better teams. Did you see that whole advert that was on before the ENG v. USA game? "We invented the game... ect.?" I just think we get the short end of the stick.

However I totally agree about the refs needing to check the video footage!

So it's started again -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...10/8757944.stm

I thought that the Kaiser was above all that crap . . actually England's 'mistake' in not finishing top was good for us . . because we get the weaker of the 2 opponents (Germany) ahem . . .

Sorry, but if you find that sort of advertising offensive, you better avoid the British news for some days now... the papers will be full of "funny" Nazi comparisons.

You are of course right about the "self proclaimed"... but there is an easy and objective way called "statistic" to settle this one:
Top four positions in previous world cups:

England
1st: 1 (1966*)
2nd:
3rd:
4th: 1 (1990)

United States
1st:
2nd:
3rd: 1 (1930)
4th:

Germany
1st: 3 (1954, 1974*, 1990)
2nd: 4 (1966, 1982, 1986, 2002)
3rd: 3 (1934, 1970, 2006*)
4th: 1 (1958)

Not offensive, just hilarious, as I find these!!

As, for these numbers on the bottom, this is exactly why I am glad that they are doing so good this year!

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

It looks like Switzerland will need to score a few goals to guarantee progressing . . . not easy for such a defensive team. What does everyone think the Swiss team's chances are?
