its not privacy - its concentration on statistics like rooney only ran 12.23 kilometers today when he usually runs 12.43 or messi turned on average 93.5 degrees 12.6 times.
But that would exactly be the basis for a 100% offside detector: At the moment the ball sensor measured an impact - aka kick - the position measurements of the players is compared...

I hadn't realised Big Brother was a statistician rather than a surveillance-based authoritarian.

yes of course - but the next step would be to reduce the playing content to an analysis of geometrical moves - before you know it these things will be bi-directional and tell the players which way to move to intercept the ball or the player. OK a little in the future but that is the direction these things always head. IIRC quarterbacks have headsets in their helmets, you could probably do this now within the rules of American football

Sure, overhead video analysis could be introduced for offside - but then it would be for offside only. Then you need a ball for the Master Lampards of this world, then you need an Schwalben-Detektor and what have you.

Rumour has it that Paraguay and Japan will be playing each other at some point today

Will someone wake me up in time for the penalty shootout, please?

Or simply better ref training. Fully agree.

Although I actually like some trivia facts and it would be cool to know who has the strongest kick... or with how much Energy the ball flew into the face of the defender in the wall...

NEWSFLASH:

Paul predicts Germany to win... but it took him much longer to decide than last time where he immediately opened the German box.

Up to now he was in 2010 never wrong and predicted both wins as well as the lost game correctly.

That Portugal goalkeeper is hands-down the best I have seen so far. Too bad he doesn't play for a better team... YAY Spain, however. I am pleased they won.

Poor Nigeria - the team got banned for two years owing to a dismal performance.

dismal performance.
Sorry, but what are the expectations? There are plenty of good teams that did not even qualify... and Nigeria is not exactly a candidate for the title. (You know, not like the title defending Italians or former runners' up, France...) So making the qualification is in itself and achievement.

And why do politicians this year all get their fingers into the game? If a national coach would decide to skip a tournament would be one thing, a president should be worried about other issues. Especially a president of a country like Nigeria.

Presumably because the government funded the team and the leader / President imposed a higher level of expectation say at least making it to one level higher than it did ?

Jonathan also ordered an audit into how the funds allocated for the team at the World Cup were used.

Yea - next time Germany crash out to England 8-1, Mutti Merkel wouldn't bother to drag them into the Führerbunker and give them a ticking off.
