Germany are out to achieve the prestigious and very much underrated WC/eurovision double.

Today is the 36th anniversary of W Germany beating Holland 2-1 in the World Cup final.

Now, not a lot of people know that.
I am a sucker for interesting trivia. Found this on the internet:
http://www.footytube.com/forums/worl...tidbits-12837/

- USA Fans have bought the most tickets to see World Cup games, followed by England

- Australia had the meanest defence during their qualifying campaign. They conceded 1 goal in 8 matches

- The oldest manager is Otto Rehhagel (Greece) at 71 years old. The youngest manager is Vladimir Weiss (Slovakia) at 45 years old

- Ivory Coast won the Cup of Nations in 1992 and the credit was taken by two local witch doctors. But when they weren’t paid, they cursed the team and they struggled until 2004. After settling the bill with $2000 and a bottle of whiskey Ivory Coast promptly qualified for their first ever World Cup.

And my favourite:
- The Paraguayans speak the native American language Guarani on the field to avoid being understood by Spanish speaking opponents

Gonna see the Germany-Spain match in 3D at a movie theater tonight. Should be a fun experience. For once I'll be able to get drunk and yell at the screen at the cinema and it'll be totally appropriate.

Yes I know what you mean, in a way I hope Spain wins as they are more beatable...me thinks

No, please let Germany be our opponents in Sunday's final! 1974 is not the only unfinished business we need to settle with them! Although they have a strong team, we are very capable of beating them. Let it happen and join Henk Kesler in hanging up banners with the text "Willkommen im Land des Weltmeisters" (http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/wk...=wkvoetbal2010)

I do not see Holland playing Spain

And I absolutely do not see anything good in a Dutch win either... the course is set for a fourth star.

Is Spain now a bigger rivalry than Holland in German eyes?

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

Am I the only one who thinks all german players were the original ones from the 74 final, brought back from the old folks home ? Come to think of it, the spanish players were also not very energetic. Should be an easy win for us dutchies this sunday !!!

As much as I'm better fan of Holland in orange shirts than Spanish red colour but I must admit that even Germans cringed to fantastic dribbling and overall higher percentage of ball possesion in the match. One head shot executed in right moment swung the whole game in favour of Spaniards. Well good luck Netherlands as you guys might need it

Yeah, the match could have been better.

For those who care, it is quite cool to see one in 3D, you feel like you're actually there at times. Sometimes in normal broadcasts you see shots and think they're on goal, and then they pass by. There's none of that in 3D, the geography of what's happening is always very clear.

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

Finally a newcomer to win the cup. Last time it was France in 98 who won, and before Arg. 78, otherwise every time 4 standard teams have won in 40 years.
Indeed, Holl.& Spa. are the best teams in the world who haven't won the cup yet and both deserve it.
Hard to guess the winner, as they are too close.
Don't 4get to watch Ger. Uru. as such a game is nicer to watch than final, due to more relaxing and no pressure on them.
ola,ole,alle,...

Does this mean the Europeans are the best worldwide in football?
Holland - Spain, come on, what could be more boring for a world cup final.

Yes, the Europeans are usually the best teams. Brazil and Argentina are great teams, but whenever they do not perform well, the rest is usually Europe.

None of both have ever won the world cup, so I think it will not be boring at all - each player will want to be part of the most important team for their naion's footlball history.
