They put 9 men behind the ball and left a fast bloke up front, I've not seen a 5 man defence for a long long time and I don't want to see any more in the world cup.
You mean like England, only without the fast bloke up front?

Do you not see why they did that?

Current Brazilian side is not good compared to past Brazilian standards but you can never count them out. Although I think they won't win anything. Ivory Coast could make life tough for them.

Portugal will be going home soon. Missing key players due to injury and a coach who is clueless.

Ronaldo is the best players in my opinion currently but boy does Ronaldo have an attitude problem! So gifted yet so flawed. Completely went missing yesterday although that strike that hit the post was sweet.

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

You have to admit it was great seeing a game of soccer from a team that is no nonsense. Played fair, no diving, no whining when a decision didn't go their way (well little anyway - probably frustration), total commitment to defeating a FAR superior team. I think this had some affect on Brazil because they too played the game in a great spirit (with some exceptions to a few things I listed above).

Robinho has some skillllz

Of course but it isn't great football.

I did enjoy the spirit of the game last night, make a tackle help the bloke you've just mashed up and say sorry, nice to see.

Just found out that the literal translation of Ivory Coast is "Fairy-bone coast" in Swissy-land speak.
They call it Feebeinkueste here?

Nearly: Elfenbeinküste. Elfenbein is ivory, but it is actually not from "Elfe" - elve: It is old-German from "Helfantbein" - elephant bone...

You see. Don't trust the Swiss when it comes to German.

When I saw the "Elfen" in Elfenbeinküste, I immediately said

Elfen - elephant
bein - bone
küste - coast

...but was corrected by our "inhouse" Swissy...

Shan't be trusting him again!

To be honest you always have a decent team, it's just they don't always play very well.
I would still be writing you lot off as bottlers, if it wasn't for the Euro's.

2-0 to Spain today I think.

No, you have an incredible team.

4-0.

6-0 if they have some luck.

What a bunch of woosey wimps these footballers are of today.
They seem to be unable to play games for all kinds of physical disabilities.

Maybe I am getting old; but I don't remember anything like this in the 80's.
That's true.
Some seem like expensive over sensitive toys at times.
The slightest little ping hits'em and they're out of order.

What seems like a small ping takes on a different meaning when youre running (or falling) at 15mph, especially when we are talking about delicate tendons and ligaments in the legs that your livelihood depends on.

Re: 2010 World Cup actual match discussion here (all matches)

Richdog is correct: studs to the skin or bone hurt like hell.

However, players take way too long to get back up. Wait for the ref to notice. Cry way too much. Roll around too much.

Officials have a blame in this too. If fouls were given cards as they should be and shirt-tugging, etc were properly penalised, then players would have less incentive to fake it.

Yeah, now that is definitely true for some nationalities and not for others though.
Quite amasing and amusing also, how some put on a theatrical show (jeez... those mamma boys) and others behave like ... well, real men... chuckles.

Migros has promised 10% off everything tomorrow if CH were to beat Spain today. They should've put more ooomph behind their support and said, "10% off if CH draws with Spain and 20% off if CH beats 'em."
