Hamilton's penalty was for changing direction more than once before the collision. Alonso's was for the collision.

Due to their finishing positions, the penalty has no effect on Alonso. He retains sixth, but Hamilton drops from seventh to eighth. That seems unfair. It would have been fairer to drop each of them one place.

Where did he change direction more than once? Someone said it was the lap before. Usually the commentators are quite sharp in picking this sort of thing up

Well that's done it- I was just about to watch the race, now I can't; it would be torture.

If you look at an F1 discussion forum after the race has taken place, what did you expect to see?

I am in the US the race is too early for me so we record it. At least I will have fun watching my husband erupt, he's watching it with headphones on as I study. I just waiting fro him to go ballistic.

It was a bizarre with Petrov. That could have turned into a major incident. He was lucky to escape unharmed. I think they may have to strengthen his car a bit if he carries on like that.

They both got the same penalty. It wasn't based on heir position but the infraction, Alonso happened to come off better. It happens

I am sure that Jean Todt, the President of FIA and former Team Principal of Ferrari would not agree.

Re: The 2011 Formula One Championship

I just couldn't get excited about today's race, nor could I about Australia. I know it was probably classed as interesting but it just did not light anything up for me.

I'm struggling to understand exactly why but I think it is because it is so obvious that the drivers are being forced (by the weak tyres) to drive so within their limits that it is obvious - no hard charging. Watching these guys try and run mental calculations as they try and spin the tyres out it is more like watching a bunch of accountants bean-counting than warriors fighting. I appeciate there is an intellectual aspect to this but it is the kind of environment that favours a Prost over a Senna and I always found Senna far more exciting to watch.

Had it been wet - maybe it would have been more exciting.

The drivers have always had to drive within the limits of the tyres whether they last 10laps or 40 laps. Nothing is different there.
I know what you mean but the sport will evolve through good and bad phases. Stick with it...

I'm glad DRS came into good effect this time. Not only because it contradicts something acen said

The Kobi versus schumi stuff was very exciting racing. The stuff at the front was a bit boring.

Re: The 2011 Formula One Championship

seems a bit odd, massa weaves around like a mad man and gets no penalty. race was another bore fest. i wish someone would beat vettel to pole or to the first corner to see if he has actually learnt how to drive from anywhere other then at the front yet.

Of course I can. But if Kevlegs does it then I don't have to go to the effort of setting up a team and can just register my already made mini team
