Ford are suing Ferrari for using the F-150 name.

Really?? You'd think Ford would be happy to be linked in any way to a Ferrari.

http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227...over-F150-name
It really is one of the more flippant corporate lawsuits I've seen. I have driven a Ford F150 and can confirm it in no way felt like it was remotely connected to Maranello. Any sane judge would laugh Ford out of court for the suggestion that Ferrari were trying to steal the sunshine of Ford's good name! A characterful judge might even suggest Ford should pay Ferrari for the honour. I guess the lawyers won't give a ^%# as long as they get paid (allegedly).

Re: The 2011 Formula One Championship

Ford and Ferrari have a long history dating back to the Le Mans battle of the mid to late 1960s which saw Ford come into Ferrari's back yard and kick their collective arses using the GT40s.

The present action is nothing more than a crass publicity stunt.

It's more than that. Laws governing IP and trademarks pretty much force Ford to go after Ferrari. If you do not clamp down on a trademark infringement, then it drastically reduces your chances of winning subsequent suits. If Ford had not taken this action, then they would have had a small chance of success, should for example Brilliance motors from China release a F-150 pickup in the American market. Pretty much nothing to do with old rivalries, or even Ferrari in particular, and much more about being very careful with a valuable trademark. They would have been stupid not to.

Isn't it now 150th Italia or something to do with an Italian celebration?

It still celebrates 150th aniversary of unified Italy whether it's the F150 of F150 th Italia (which I read was it's original full name anyway)

Re: The 2011 Formula One Championship

Just can't imagine the Bahrain GP happening now. Guess the only alternative would be to speedily arrange something in Abu Dhabi, or even the Dubai circuit. At least the leadership there could say "We're having a race" and it would happen. And all the transport will be inplace to get cars/teams to that part of the world anyway. I hope they manage to run somewhere (of course comes second to hoping no more blood spilt in Bahrain)

Let's see. It's not the most exciting of GP's but the last testing is also planned there. F1 I think has it's own planes for transporting all the kit, so I guess they could move the testing and GP to another track over that way.

Just received my second HD satellite box which I'll setup in the Cinema room. Just in time for the rest of the RBS and the start of the F1 all in glorious HD.

Re: The 2011 Formula One Championship

Read yesterday that some of the kit is already on it's way there on a container ship. So moving it will NOT be so easy.

This would mean wiating even longer for the opening F1 GP

It would be a logistical nightmare to move the race and a few weeks wouldn't be enough. So many factors involved etc.

Re: The 2011 Formula One Championship

I think they should move it. It could give F1 a bad name, plus all the advertising. Security will be a logistical nightmare.

Formula One's season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on March 13 may have to be called off due to civil unrest in the country, commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone told Reuters on Thursday. "We'll make a decision by Tuesday or Wednesday (next week)," he said. "If things stay as they are today, the answer is no," he added when asked whether he felt the race at Sakhir circuit would go ahead. "If it's not quietened down by Wednesday, I think we will have to cancel probably.

Re: The 2011 Formula One Championship

Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya has said it would be happy to host the opening race if needed.

Also, the UK Foreign office "has warned against all non-essential travel to Bahrain."

It seems inevitable to me that the race will be cancelled. The logistics of moving to another circuit are so huge. If another circuit is to host the race, a decision would need to be made pretty well immediately.

I doubt it. They will lose another 3 days testing.
