Hey - enough of the biting retorts!!
The OP is entitled to their opinion without being shot down in flames.
Of course he is. I personnally doubt that someone who is here since a month only can come up and pass very judgemental comments on a forum he (apparently) doesn't know.

If I moved in Switzerland and after one month goes on the swiss faces and claim to know everything about their life, they may shoot me.

Since he is entitled to his opinion, we are too entitled to say that we have some doubt about his knowledge of the forum or his past.

Re: The Forum

The annoying thing, which the OP didn't mention but probably should have, is the amount of stupid posts because newbies didn't use the search function to find answers to basic questions already asked a hundred times.

And of course 120K is enough to live on. This is for a month though, no? :-)

Yes, of course Nil; but doing so in a constructive way and not in a childish, patronising way is.... er.......the right way!

We have numerous posts on whether it's a good idea to import your 110v US toaster that cost not much in order to save about Chf 30.-- by buying one fit for purpose in Switzerland, which runs on 240v. Sure you can buy transformers etc, but when you wan toast, the machine has to work and you don0t want to have to gfo hunting for the transforemr your 12 year old has taken to play Game Cube or whatever.

We then get posts about whether it make sense to import some wothless junk in the form of a 1995 Jaguar car. No it's not, by the time you paid for import and taken the hit when you sell you foreign car or pay for it to be re-exported, it's just not worth it, face up to facts. Take into consoideration all the time and bollocking around you need to do to get it through the various tests.

The best one, " is Chf 120k enough to live on ? What can you say ? "How long's a piece of string ?" It all dependfs on haw you live but lets be quite honnest, plenty of families of 4 people manage quite adequately on Chf 6-7'000 per month.

No doubt some over zealous mod will move this post to some other area of the forum less visited in order to try and hide it up a little. I purposely put it in daily life as the forum could be construed as a part of daily life. However with the loss of a lot of knowledgable, interesting, humerous and fair posters such as Dougal, Sutter, Lynn, Dave A, to name but a few, this forum is quickly becomming mundane and full of stupidity.
Fixed that for you.

PS: I would never bully someone with a spelling problem but obviously that is not you. Your writing is just sloppy.

Well, considering some of the asinine stuff he has spouted elsewhere and how he reacts to criticism (red blob him to get a PM), AND the fact that he is clearly a phoenix member or even one with a double identity, I think we can shoot at will.

Re: The Forum

OP, you know what? If people want to pose questions on whether to bring their US toaster into Switzerland, let them. If they want to import their vintage jag into Switzerland, let them. The reason people ask questions is because they dont know. Moving to a foreign country is stressful and that does cause occasional brain farts.

From what I've read on the forum, a couple of years back, compared to now, I must say that I am glad that there are lesser caustic, self important arses shooting any newbie who dared ask a question down with humour they think is oh-so-cute.

I will be the first to hold my hands up about being impatient with some newbies. Especially those lazy ones. But dont shoot someone for being vague (some people arent the best of communicators) or asking really innocent questions. That of course is subjective, which is probably the reason for your rant - fair enough. You are entitled to your opinion.

Whether you are a returning member or really a long time lurker, live and let live. The community has evolved, maybe not to your liking - and everyone else can choose to move along with the flow - or leave. But dont devalue and disrespect alot of other current active posters who have taken the time to still be here and answering questions.

**Analyzing phrase: Knowledgeable, Interesting, Humorous, Sutter**

**Please wait, analyzing**

**Please wait, analyzing**

**Warning, does not compute. Critical error.**

All joking apart, I would have to say that while the loss of notable long-term characters is always a bad thing to the people who know them, those individuals are not unique in this world, and are not the only knowledgeable or amusing people within Switzerland. There are still some great characters on the forum, and some funny posts as well as the factual (amusingly, people generally moan about forums getitng too off-topic, so maybe this one IS on track if your gripe is that it's 'too helpful'). However it seems to be a time of change for the forum, and from prior experience on other forums if there's one thing that long-term members hate in their comfortable little forum bubbles, it's change. Change is of course bad, it's ruining their forum experience, the world is in turmoil as a result, etc etc.

Whle the forum may not be the lovey dovey place I hear it used to be when Mark had it, I don't see how the fundamentals of it have changed... make threads with questions relevant to CH, wait for answers... create social events, meet people. Some people aren't interested in making friends and meeting people, and some are.

The bigger a forum grows (as it is doing now) then you cannot expect it to remain a cozy little haven centered around a core group of members. In 6 months it will be business as usual and then in a year we will probably have the exact same thread moaning about the next generation of popular members who are no longer around as much any more. Things change, deal with it.

Re: The Forum

That's fine then, don't use this forum. As in all forums, there are the good, the bad and the ugly (posts and posters).

Of course one can always argue about high salaries or bringing cars etc., but from a personal perspective these questions are important when leaving a country and going to a rather unknown one.

I also did not know where to buy those Zürisäcke. What logic tells you they can be asked at the cash counter ?? !! ?? But I found the answer without posting something in this line. If I had I'm sure you would also have brought me down.
