The Forum

Since the powers to be decided to sell out or give away the forum to "editor Bob's" crew for whatever they managed to get, i have to say i have seen a steady decline in the quality of the posts, the posters and the forum.

We have numerous posts on whether it's a good idea to import your 110v US toaster that cost not much in order to save about Chf 30.-- by buying one fit for purpose in Switzerland, which runs on 240v. Sure you can buy transformers etc, but when you wan toast, the machine has to work and you don0t want to have to gfo hunting for the transforemr your 12 year old has taken to play Game Cube or whatever.

We then get posts about whether it make sense to import some wothless junk in the form of a 1995 Jaguar car. No it's not, by the time you paid for import and taken the hit when you sell you foreign car or pay for it to be re-exported, it's just not worth it, face up to facts. Take into consoideration all the time and bollocking around you need to do to get it through the various tests.

The best one, " is Chf 120k enough to live on ? What can you say ? "How long's a piece of string ?" It all dependfs on haw you live but lets be quite honnest, plenty of families of 4 people manage quite adequately on Chf 6-7'000 per month.

No doubt some over zealous mod will move this post to some other area of the forum less visited in order to try and hide it up a little. I purposely put it in daily life as the forum could be construed as a part of daily life. However with the loss of a lot of knowledgable, interesting, humerous and fair posters such as Dougal, Sutter, Lynn, Dave A, to name but a few, this forum is quickly becomming mundane and full of stupidity.

1. It's the powers that be, not to be.
2. I don't think the owners are responsible for the quality of the posts. Ahem...
3. You've only been a member for a month, so what would you know? (unless you're admitting to being a phoenix member?)

Unless he's been browsing as a guest for a number of years.

I don't think the "Powers that be" had much choice in all fairness. The owner of the site tragically died and the ownership of the Forum became an issue which took a long time to clean up. There may have been other routes that could have been taken but we have to respect the wishes of Mark's family.

The forum has continued to thrive since this time and every now and then we have a change that makes all and sundry chuck their toys out of the pram and declare they are out of here. Yet give it a few months and you'll see them back again (with the exception of a few who choose cheese).

Just out of interest, Do you consider your thread to be any of the adjectives I have changed to bold text above?

If you feel that the ef is going through a rough patch, perhaps you could add some knowledge, humor etc to brighten it up. Be proactive

Re: The Forum

Some of the people you have listed as 'gone' are merely on Christmas holiday break...and seriously, how long have you been around. I've been on the forum 2.5 years and I can't say it's got any worse than when I began - but I'm pretty sure there is a bigger team of people working in the background as volunteers, keeping things smooth (haven't seen a spam or junk mail or viral posting for a long time!), and a lot more volume...

If anything, people are being answered more rather than being told constantly to use the search engine...and more newbies chiming in rather than sitting back and letting the 'oldies' handle everything...

Not to say the OP's post may be wrong in parts but I did import a 1995 vehicle when I moved over here in march 2009 and am glad I did. It wasn't much hassle and didn't cost me much. And I am still using it so to me it was worth it and I would do it again if needed!

What was your experience of importing a car??

Re: The Forum

Don't like the way the OP phrases things much, but actually think he has a valid point.

So many factual posts, not much humour anymore and often not a great deal of discussion going on.
Hmmmm.......nothing to do with the powers that be, rather the crowd who are posting at the moment.

Yeah, gotta hate factual posts ...

Seriously, as others have said, I haven't noticed much change overall compared to the last couple of years ... just cycles ... speaking of which, anyone got a few good kids' bikes for sale at a ridiculously low price?

I'm sure DaveA would love to be lumped with Sutter as a knowledgeable, interesting and humorous poster

So who were you in a past life? A month old member wouldn't know of DaveA?

I agree. Quality of post has declined since the sell of the forum.
the first post in this thread is the best example.

Re: The Forum

the way i see it, once you orginally use the forum to find out where to buy this or find that etc..then it is obviously going to become less useful, and some members are going to leave.

however there are new people who are coming here and find this information useful, therefore you are always going to get these cycles.

i flick on occasionally, mainly to make fun of people and see if anything interesting is happening
