Yes it is 3 complaints. But i dont mind not correcting myself. Kinda lazy that way, explains my fondness for txtspeak. And as i said. Getting my message across the fastest. Its just the internet. U can correct posts all day long if u like. Or just understand that some people dont care about making some errors. Were not in school. Thanks though.

Bah, and I took so long to write such a nice explanatory message...

We are not in school, thank god. But we do have some rules of forum vacations for those who trespass. Since when did laziness become an excuse for sloppy?

Fastest is not always the best.

Yes im stuck here in front of the computer and bored. But still stand by my idea that i like abbreviating. But avoiding it now to avoid getting picked on. As its not helping anybody maybe except for those who feel good about themselves doin it. Really, i swear id love to go out every now and then. But i guess i can do 4 hour hikes maybe just twice a week.

Yeah... You don't get picked on, you get informed that text speak and obsessive abbreviating are not allowed here.

You can always plan the wedding, though, too. That should kill the boredom. Or make local friends?

Re: Confused by this forum

I suspect that Stephanienie might be referring to this post.

... and I stand by what I said. It is easy for those of us living in the German speaking parts of Switzerland to forget that quite a lot of people on the forum don't speak German, have no need to speak German, nor have any desire to speak German.

The English Forum is for all of us, wherever in Switzerland we live or visit.

You like abbreviating. That's fine. I don't like abbreviations when it takes me longer to work out what they mean than it would have taken for the poster to have written word out in full.

I don't pick on people much on here. But I do occasionally delete posts which I think are out of line. And this can happen when the text includes too much text speak. I simply request a re-write.

English is hard enough to spell correctly anyway. Let's not make the life of those who find it difficult even more so.

Bunwala stephanienie kema soua si? Afass guela, pe farra 'english forum', gasue kema mau. Stephanienie se 'raffali', se 'mugwassa', se 'gnouella mara bis'...

See what I mean?

That's what it's like for non-German speakers or non-native-English speakers who are obliged to read lots of German or text speak in the posts others make. It excludes them, and it isn't very nice.

Gosh, you also have serious issues with punctuation!

I don't really understand, and try to take this as a suggestion and not an attack... It's been made pretty clear that we stick to English as a common language and try as much as we can to follow the conventions of English spelling and grammar, in the interest of easier communication. Moreover, non-native English speakers are an important part of this forum, and textspeak may not be so easy for them to decipher.

It's also annoying and inappropriate outside text messages, chat rooms and online games, which many of us enjoy, just not HERE. But continue if you must, and don't be surprised if you end up talking to yourself, basically.

Complete gibberish.

Which is what German and text speak look like to quite a lot of users of this forum.

I love to walk naked outside but apparently it is not something wished by many people....

I am not an native english speaker and text speaking is very difficult to read for me as I have to read it out loud! Means also that I have to spend much more time on one sentence than normal. In that case, I get bored and skip the post. I don't pay attention and maybe I could have been helpful to that person if I did understand her.

Mhahah...I felt stupid because I thought I don't even know how to use GoogleTranslate .

Anyways. So, Stephanie, I think people who can't decipher text speak might feel dumb, not trendy enough, or whatever..Why should they. Don't feel bad for hanging on the forum, read up on info, instead, or check out what events you could see. Or start your own, even, really. EF is a fun place.

So, here's what I don't get:

I look at the discussion threads here and see a bunch of cranky people hurling invectives around and generally annoyed with everything Swiss, expat, commercial, liberal, conservative, overly friendly, unfriendly, or, otherwise existing.

Yet, when we've gone to the social events, we invariably meet a large group of friendly people we can effortlessly have several hours pleasant conversation with.

Are there rules I'm not aware of here?

(yes, I understand sampling bias, and that nice conversations die fast where flamewars go forever, etc. etc. I'm more just commenting on how the discussion forums create an atmosphere where I have to talk myself in to social events that I always wind up having a great time at.)
A lot of what looks like invective is just people sparring and having a bit of a laugh. Or just ranting. Or just talking rubbish.

There is nobody on this forum with whom I'd be unwilling to share a drink in real life, even if we've argued like a pair of alley cats on the forum.

That's the difference between the internets and real life, I suppose.

I'm sure he's probably quite normal in real life.

Even if he is Californian...
