What's the point

We have a travel section that can only be used for Switzerland now, yet this is an expat forum with many nationalities represented. Why can we not have a split topic on travel into geographic regions, to allow us to benefit from the experience of other EFer's... rather than post's getting mod assisted 'travel' into the boonies of off topic where they are unlikey to get an answer.

As and aside, my post Zurich - New York got punted, yet of the 4 non sticky threads in that topic we have a German, French and Dubai question.... so 75% NON- Swiss

EDIT: 1 of those threads was threads was started by a mod, and another posted on by a mod, who reminded me of the forum rules... just sayin

Re: What's the point

Certainly inconsistent application of the rules.

If the 'Switzerland only' rule is to be applied, it may be better to rename that forum "Travel and day trips in Switzerland". It would then be obvious to members when starting a thread.

If a new forum were created, "Travel from Switzerland" may be suitable.

Re: What's the point

I agree it would be really helpful to tap into experience and knowledge of EF members for holidays abroad.

Consistent application of the rules is a duty of all Members.

If you see a post needing some help, the report post icon assists us in keeping things ship shape. There are a lot of reported posts to assess amongst dealing with the other emails / PMs / playground antics being quietly managed backstage. "What's the point" [sic] comes across as a bit ungracious.

We could indeed dilute further by including IT, sex themes, online gaming and gambling sub fora, but that's up to Editor Bob / The Local's wishes.

Perhaps a nicely phrased question to EB may provide a satisfactory response?

Pompous as ever eh max. Never the less, many EFer's travel not just in Switzerland, and this is...oops was, a forum for the members, so why can the travel section not cater for this? If you lot are so busy moving post maybe you should ask why. Maybe things need to be tweaked to reflect local not The Local interests.

And as for the inconsistant movement in that section, I can't wait for the smug response for that?

Mathnut gave me an answer about this question a few weeks back.

Something between those lines:

Mods are human and they do mistakes, forget or miss threads. They also have a life outside the forum which means that they don't see everything going on the forum at every single second.

And being human may be a reason why inconsistance happen. Plus the fact that as human they also have their own mind, opinion and point of view, sometimes someone may think a thread is better somewhere else while someone else wouldn't have move it.

Now, I don't believe any of it.... I mean come on... Mods, humans? Pfff! It's a rumor...

I'm gonna register on that Lonely Planet forum and post "What is a good salary?" under each country.

Apologies if you find my comments pompous / smug, it's just your attitude / complaint came across as a bit wide. The power of the written form, eh? Your repeated question has already been answered in my first response. As to why we're busy tidying up after others...

If that were the answer, then all the posts not relating to Switzerland in Travel/Day Trips should be deleted all together.

That would be extreme, but still: if I want to buy cheese I can go to the Coop and buy Cathedral City, or I could go to a place that specialises in cheese, offers a better selection and good advice.

That doesn't mean I have to forgo the Coop completely, though, does it?

EF is specialising in information about Switzerland for English speakers.

To continue your analogy. Would you expect the specialist Cheese shop to stock Oxo cubes just because the Coop does?
