Consistantly inconsistant

Today I had a post deleted from for sale, despite meeting all the requirements laid out in the stickies, the reason being "there are too many post for friends" on the forum. Now, if that's the rule that you cannot post on behalf of someone else why is not in either of the stickies, and why do some still sit proudly in place?

This statement "The volunteers at English Forum work hard to keep the content relevant for our visitors." would seem at odds with the action of the mod, and presumably a visitor to that section has no interest in who is selling an item just an interest in it. This unpublished rule (in For Sale), will simply lead to people looking to help others (was that not the reason for the EF) to not disclose that they aren't the owner, which I'm sure is not the intention. I'm also pretty sure you mods wouldn't have so much work to do if you made these things clear, and applied the rules evenly and consistently to everyone.

I'm not mod bashing, just passing on an observation that may make your lives easier

I sell items on behalf of clients all the time, I don't think it matters whether the items are mine or not, if I run the ad, the replies come to me. Sometimes I have said selling on behalf of a client (everyone who knows me knows I couldn't possibly own a TRIPP TRAPP). You can always tell the buyer yourself you are not the owner of the item and where the item can be picked up.

I recently helped someone here buy baby gates from a friend. She was very appreciative. I replied to her post where she was looking for some and I knew my friend had what the OP might need. I put them in touch with one another and both are really happy.

To me it is all about helping others. I am not a mod but I would not have deleted your post for that reason. Just rerun the ad and just leave out the bit about "posting for a friend".

Seems odd to me. Does that mean if I posted that my neighbour had 10 lambs just back from the butcher that he wanted to sell at 15 chufs a kg, that would also be deleted?

I guess I'll have to eat them all myself then

Why not...... seems to me the mod got out the wrong side of the bed today.

Is exactly right. And that is not what anyone on the EF wants. Openness, Honesty and Trust - it's part of the EF's reputation. Otherwise, just turn it into back page classifieds.

To get round it PG, you buy it then sell it here.....

Re: Consistantly inconsistant

As I understand it:

If somebody posts 'XYZ for sale. Contact me by PM for details' it is extremely unlikely that a mod would know if it was on behalf of a friend and delete it.

If someone is honest and posts 'I am selling XYZ on behalf of a friend' it may be deleted. This is inconsistent.

There are a variety of reasons that the seller may not be able to post this themselves including: a newbie who hasn't reached 10 posts yet; a member with limited internet access; a member being away from home; a non-member.

Apart from the newbie situation, I don't see any reason to delete the posts. I doubt if anyone is going to state that they are selling on behalf of a newbie.

No GG, the lambs would all have to join the EF, and wait for the required week and 10 post before they could post themselves for sale... and they can't junk post either or they'll be for the chop
