Resources Section on EF

When I saw a question on tax last night, why don't we create a resources section here to file links to tax calculators, visa entry requirements, customs limits etc?

To be honest, if I were new here and wanting to have a question answered, I wouldn't look into the structures, figure out what stickies are......I'm not even sure that I would search as maybe people don't really know what they are searching for. Also, by definition, the most asked questions are the most answered...so if you search for "tax", you get 16 pages of threads and think...."sod it, i'll just post a question instead"

So why not create another header (next to business directory) with a file system for all this stuff, maybe arranged by Canton etc etc?

Just a thought

While i am not sure that I agree with the proposed "treatment" I certainly agree with the "diagnosis". My advice to newcomers is to browse the relevant sub-forums, precisely because I am very aware of the limitations of search.

Well, in an ideal world, of course.....but if I were panicking about an issue, I'm not sure I'd wade though the (albeit entertaining) chaff to get to the wheat. I'd just post a new question.

By posting, say, 50 useful links in an easy to access format, we might save 50% of the repetitious questions. Its a vicious circle, because the more new questions get asked, the more clogged the search results become, and the less likely it is that people can find the answer....so they ask a new questions ad infinitum

Or, delete all the chit chat, lolcats, derailments and repeat questions which clog up the already established and very informative threads? Oh, wait, Mods get some pretty uppity messages from Users when they try to keep order. Donations to the mod_patience fund can be left at EF Reception.

So extending this to the greater Forum, perhaps we should open a chat website for the self absorbed and start a wiki on life in Switzerland, to keep the twain apart? Quite a few love the chit chat. Many don't but we don't see them as they've stopped using the Forum. Noise to signal, anyone?

No (a little black and white there, my mod friend ) - I'm suggesting leaving everything exactly as it is with people able to ask questions and banter and talk cobblers.....but creating a little quiet resource corner which is easier to dive into than using the search function

Translation for those not familiar with irony-ridden speak now available from Google, very possibly.

No - I got the irony.....it just didn't seem relevant to my point. I wasn't saying......lets stop talking bllx here, I was saying rather than keep answering "use search", I was saying "Lets make life a little easier for people to find stuff"

The point about signal to noise may or may not be valid.....but its a different thread
