This looks like the beginning of Dan's Brown book (my friends do know what I think about Dan Brown's "facts").

I have mentioned this before. It seems that the message didn't get through:

A drawing is not less offensive because it's not a photo. A cartoon, no matter how childish it is made, is as offensive as words (written or spoken) can be. A cartoon provides a message. This message can be extremely offensive or rude, or funny and harmless, according to the idea it bares.

Do not juggle with this silly idea that just 'coz it's a drawing it's harmless.

Iconoclasm existed for a reason people! Images can hurt and provoke hatred.

Whether Zuger avatar is appropriate or not, I leave to the mods to decide. But please, I beg you, don't keep beating on this childish idea that a cartoon is just a harmless funny!

Thank you!
Thank you for not "adding your interpretation" to my post.

I only said :
1) it's not a picture but a drawing, a cartoon. fact

I never said anything about it being harmless or not.

And for your information I know what is a caricature cartoon, as you will see it's even warning in the description: exaggeration, distortion, etc...

A caricature is a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness. In literature, a caricature is a description of a person using exaggeration of some characteristics and oversimplification of others.
Caricatures can be insulting or complimentary and can serve a political purpose or be drawn solely for entertainment. Caricatures of politicians are commonly used in editorial cartoons, while caricatures of movie stars are often found in entertainment magazines.

This has spilled over from the other thread.

Please close this one too (be consistant)

Avatars should be not subject to rules, anyone stupid enough to troll should face a short term ban immediately, followed up by a perm ban if persistant in their trolling.

On a case by case basis according to moderator will. We have a report post function or send a pm to a mod.

No need for the amount of drama surrounding this.

Look: that one was also attempting to show people how it hurts:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/02/wo...02denmark.html

The police foiled an attempt to kill an artist who drew a cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad that sparked outrage in the Muslim world, the head of Denmark’s intelligence service said Saturday.

He simply wanted to show him how it hurts, to make him feel the pain he created. What's wrong with that?

Re: Avatars

CorsebouTheReturn, I never wanted to teach you what a cartoon or a caricature is. If my post sounded condescending, was not my intention.

I have seen similar reactions present in this thread, not necessarily from you, to SVP "cartoons": that just because they are a childish cartoon, you can't take it seriously and can't take offence on it.

I don't know why, but it is actually a common belief that a cartoon should not be allowed to be taken seriously. But this nonchalant taking on pictures is a wrong as a deadly reaction to it (the one that makes people want to kill because of a picture).

I just wanted to reeinforce the point of the drawing itself: it can hurt. Peace!

By closing this thread, it will come down to censorship, something you strongly disagree with.

Avatar should be subjects to rules. For those who don't know the concept of respect to others.

Avatars are as strong as words. If it is not acceptable to write hatred messages on this forum, same should be for avatars.

I am sorry i have never learned diplomacy and i went the wrong way.

I hope no one will not have to go this direction again and repeat the same mistake because it hurts really bad.

We all can agree on one thing that is mutual respect for all races and religions.

Tough love is an expression used when someone treats another person harshly or sternly with the intent to help them in the long run.

openly and knowingly insulting another person ( filthy religion? ) when PERHAPS they have made a mistake ( avatar ) is no kind of love.

Yes there are mechanisms to deal with the 0.5% causing the problems. No rules are needed.

Your thread is trying to impose your rules of what is acceptable on other forum members.

You are not a moderator.

I object to that hence why I want the thread closed. I have stated my reasons for this. It's up to the moderators to decide not me or you.

You've done it in the past trying to impose your values on this community and I objected then and I will again.

I request that I can choose what avatar I want without being "nannied."

I hate royality in the UK and could come up with a avatar, should I have someone dictate an ever increasing list of banned avatars?
