I don't find it offensive. Like I didn't find the breastfeeding avatar offensive either but it got removed. Why?

That is the purpose of this thread. Why one more than the other?

My personal opinion about Zuger's avatar was just that: an opinion.

And my opinion is as a member of a community, we should be done deal to follow some guideline when it comes to respect.
My head just exploded.

So if we had some members of the KKK on the EF and they took offense at the fact I have a black person on my Avatar, should I change it?
For God's sake Zuger!

Re: Avatars

There is no need for the long drawn out debate about avatars. The solution is simple.

Mods will act to get members to change offensive avatars, just as they would for a post. They cannot be everywhere and may not see this immediately, or appreciate the significance of it.

If you see something that you find offensive (avatar or post), report it using the red triangle at the top right of the post.

If a member continually posts things that you don't like but mods feel are acceptable to the majority, add them to your Ignore List: Control Panel - Settings & Options - Edit Ignore List - Add Member to Your List.

Re: Avatars

It is to the mods to decide it, so let them.

I like this forum and I obviously care enough to said what I had to say. You also said what you want to say. Lets wait now to know the outcoming of this debate.

Like I said, I expressed my concerns and I will accept the mods decisions.

I am done with debating on this.

Could be worse, you could live in a Muslim country, where females dont have the right to speak out against us infidels.

Surely you can admit that it was interesting to see a Muslim member's response to the avatar to which you refer: create another avatar of a religious figurehead with the capacity to offend many more people than just the chap who had used the offensive avatar in the first place, without thought for whether, indeed, the original chap would even take offence himself.

A bit like al Qaida having a problem with the United States and killing a load of Africans to prove their point, no?

Yes, people prefer to focus on the idiots instead of the sensible ones.

Re: Avatars

Nil, dear girl, the best solution is to trust the mods. They like to play the tough, snob, little lords, but they are awesome. Inside every mod there is a candy heart (or lolcat).

Without attacking anyone in particular, some people like to use whatever they can get their hands on to provoke others. Sometimes with no other reason but to capture attention. It also includes the generalization of radicals of any religion/ political view. Some forget that thinking all muslims wear the burka is the same as thinking all jews refuse to make knots or every christian is stoning someone to death for calling the Lord in vain.

There are some basic rules of conduct and I do honestly believe the mods are adult and inteligent enough to understand when an offence is taken inside this forum. If something offends you, or anyone else in this forum, send them a PM and they are usually a helpful bunch!

I think that has been enough "subtle" praising for today...

It's true. I've been trying for years and it's always "number busy"

(see how I used a fellow EFer's incomplete language/typing skills to make joke at their expense. Muahahaha, mofos. Much better than trying to construct an elevated section of the earth's crust, caused by the tectonic collision of 2 continental plates, out of the tunnelling deritus of a small garden mammal)

This fellow EF doesn't take offence on native English speakers making fun of my lack of knowledge of the English language. Like this I reserve the right to make fun of the native English speakers trying to speak my mother tongue or any other language I dominate better than English.

I think that has been enough "subtle" praising for today...
Moreover, beside the "forum rules" (which is just a set of guidelines to keep the forum "clean") there's the law and culture!

As a matter of fact in our culture and in the law we respect the freedom of speech and caricatures (you know, those drawings who can amuse, mock, shock, offend, etc...).

And there the "forum" has to obey to those "major rules".

So if one is "offended" by a caricature, fair enough. But don't come crying for the sake of it. And don't play the victim card.

Because in the caricature there's much more than the simple "offending aspect", which are all omitted.

In addition, if you want to be offended by the cartoon, then I think it's fair that you also mention if you are offended by the many threats and attacks the caricature artists received.

Now let's list a few of the "much more" you omit in that cartoon:
- It's a man. (gender) why not a woman?
- It's a angry looking man
- It's an "old style" bomb. Not a grenade, not a recent C4, but an "old style bomb".
- It's going to blow... that guy's HEAD! (It's self inflicting damage)
-Etc, etc, etc... Theres many many many many other interpretation you could have had.
- it was made in the context were religious extremists of that religion have committed suicide attacks.
-etc, etc...
-
But you chose to play the victim! Showing how it's offending the followers of that religion.

Well done on your choice and on your extremely focused vision of that cartoon.
