I once got very upset at being groaned.
Then I woke up and realized this is just 't internet and not real life and it really doesn't matter one iota.

I'l stand by the groans I have recieved for giving an opinion as a convinced pacifist against weapons of any kind. Also recieved a few for speaking up about an impression of chauvinism and what I considered a needed sense of responsibility.

Out of interest, has anybody else ever instinctively reached for the "Thanks" button when reading a work email....to find that Outlook didn't catch up yet...

To me, being groaned at is a proof that I hit the right spot. In French: appuyer lŕ oů ça fait mal.

Sometimes groaning has nothing to do with the actual post, but with what is happening that we do not see or don't know about. Don't forget, there are harassers here, pming all over, things people say to eachother when face to face, grudges, etc..
I wouldn't be so attached to groans and their meanings. Groan fest is indeed not allowed, since it seems cowardly bullyish and in fact devaluates the regulars who use it in moderation, to express disagreement.
Everyone gets groaned at at certain point, I am sure we don't loose much sleep over it, do we...

I don't think that's quite right, though. Groans can also be given out because the groaner didn't "get" the post and misinterpreted it or they are just having a bad day and there is nothing to prove / disprove.
I collected groans from some mad member who went back and groaned as many posts as she could because she was pissed off with me. She probably didn't even read my posts.
