Re: To Groan or not to Groan, that is the question.

I once got very upset at being groaned.

Then I woke up and realized this is just 't internet and not real life and it really doesn't matter one iota.

Re: To Groan or not to Groan, that is the question.

I'l stand by the groans I have recieved for giving an opinion as a convinced pacifist against weapons of any kind. Also recieved a few for speaking up about an impression of chauvinism and what I considered a needed sense of responsibility.

For the rest, some were drive-by and one or two might well have been deserved

Perfect example of unnecessary groaning right here....I did not deserve this, now I will have a miserable afternoon, will be horrible to my poor innocent kids and will need lots of wine later to get over it

Did you just quote yourself??? I think THAT is a first

Out of interest, has anybody else ever instinctively reached for the "Thanks" button when reading a work email....to find that Outlook didn't catch up yet...

Those are the days when I think I spend a bit too much time here

It's simple: people groan when they read a truth they didn't want to be confronted with.
To me, being groaned at is a proof that I hit the right spot. In French: appuyer lŕ oů ça fait mal.

I wonder, though. Sometimes groaning has nothing to do with the actual post, but with what is happening that we do not see or don't know about. Don't forget, there are harassers here, pming all over, things people say to eachother when face to face, grudges, etc..

I wouldn't be so attached to groans and their meanings. Groan fest is indeed not allowed, since it seems cowardly bullyish and in fact devaluates the regulars who use it in moderation, to express disagreement.

Everyone gets groaned at at certain point, I am sure we don't loose much sleep over it, do we...

Does that mean that the people who you groan at have told you a truth you didn't want to hear and proof that they have hit the right spot with you?

I don't think that's quite right, though. Groans can also be given out because the groaner didn't "get" the post and misinterpreted it or they are just having a bad day and there is nothing to prove / disprove.

I collected groans from some mad member who went back and groaned as many posts as she could because she was pissed off with me. She probably didn't even read my posts.
