Re: Is EF too cliquey?

When I first got on the EF, I did think that it seemed a bit "cliquey." But I think that was mainly because in one of my earliest posts, I made a stupid comment without much forethought (which I blame on being pregnant and moody at the time. Oops. ). And quite a few people groaned me for it, and I felt a bit ganged-up on. But once the preggie hormones settled down a bit and I was able to judge it with some hindsight, I realized that it wasn't their intention to gang up on me, that I deserved the groans and that it really wasn't a "clique" but was just the people who do post on here regularly and are familiar with (and perhaps even sometimes a bit protective) of one another, etc.

Anyways, this place is now almost starting to feel like a "virtual home" to me... and I am becoming increasingly thankful to have a place like this that makes me laugh, feel less alone in a foreign country, gives good advice and cures the occasional boredom.

So yeah, there probably have been some newbies who have been scared off, but I think that if they had stuck around long enough to get to know the EF better, then they would have soon become just as addicted to this damn forum as I am.

You haven't joined the right clique. Fit in, dammit. Maybe you can join poptart's clique. Do you like Patsy and Edina?

Try spelling "victim" correctly, and you may actually (or should I say "currently") get help!

I'd love to know who all those people are, but I really have no clue. Bad start for a carreer in a clique.

My way of being nice is to NOT correct German and French mistakes in this forum. Too much work and I would be seen as an arrogant pedant, not a good strategy for a clique glamour reputation

But thanks for the victim, I am here to practice English.

Re: Is EF too cliquey?

I do think it's cliquey and to be honest it's the one part of EF that I don't really like.

I know it's annoying when people repeat a question that has been asked a thousand times, but new people do that because they are new and I wish people would just be a bit nicer to them about it.

I feel that some forums - like the family/health one are less mean to newbies and I often restrict my posting to topics in there. I guess I also feel closer to the issues raised there being a mum anyway.

I steer clear of the politics topics and a lot of the daily life threads - in fact I often type replies and then delete them because I want to avoid the humiliation that results from not being in the in-crowd.

[in fact also worried about posting this one]

Re: Is EF too cliquey?

I am too hot to be in a cliquey, people follow me.

I am joking! I do feel like we have cliqueys but I also see members not being shy to tell one of their ''bodies'' off if they don't agree. And knowing someone ''in real'' certainly help. But I do have my favorites and most of them I never met....
