WTF are blobs anyway? Someone got pissy at a post of mine the other day and rather sanctimoniously informed me that I was given a dreaded red blob...as though it might wound me. Then I started to wonder WTF those things are and how I can join in on the fun of the blob wars. It sounds a bit too much like dodgeball to pass up.

Find your name at the top of this page. Just underneath is a link that says "control panel". Click it and scroll down. You will see a series of green/grey/red blobs with comments next to them. These affect your overall reputation, which are the blobs on the right hand side of each post your make, red for bad, green for good, grey for neutral.

To give reputation, click on the set of scales on the top right of a person's post, then follow the instructions from there.

Have fun!

I didn't realize the blobs were from users, rather a meter of thanks vs. posts.

The obvious stuff is always the hardest. I may just enjoy this...

Yeah, maybe someday I'll learn the secret handshake and motto, too!

A girl can dream, can't she?

It probably won't do me much good to get the calendar, though, since it appears that all the fun stuff goes on in Basel and Zurich (no offense to Grynch as I am sure his Burger/Beer event was great)!

Could I get it anyway if I offered to buy drinks even though I, a mere three-blob, am not worthy?

...dunno about cliquey, but adequate Foo vs. Trekkers and Foo vs. Foo, seasoned with enough disregard for sincerity, respect and naivety to make a good part of the menu distasteful, and navigating between shitting Foo(l)s a waste of time and energy. The saving grace is that the Foo(l)s, as hard as they try, can't always be everywhere at once.

.. these grand VIP parties (always in Basel or Zurich) where members had to show proof of their six-blob status (and maybe five-blobs could join in as well, if they bought the drinks ).
You only have three blobs. You have to buy me a beer then suck my dick*.

* It's a cliquey in-joke, as at every EF event someone always sucks my dick.

LOL...As usually the sole female engineer working around a bunch of guys I'm well versed, still giggle at, and am fairly immune to just about any perverse jokes. Although I will admit to being shocked having to explain what a 'merry widow' was to my colleagues ogling the Victoria's Secret catalogue once after I made a rather ribald joke... I cackled over that one for months.

Re: Is EF too cliquey?

I, too, had been lurking quite a while before joining and loved the friendly and welcoming "virtual" atmosphere. I was indeed afraid, once I had officially joined and been actively posting, that I would discover unpleasant cliquey aspects which would spoil the fun. but it didn't happen! everybody was friendly and welcoming and helped with my first queries.

besides, I'd bet that even the most cliquey old-boy-forum-veterans are happy to have someone new to liven up the atmosfere with new insights. it gives them something to nudge each other about
so, yes, for me it was worth taking the risk of joining and I can only recommend that everyone does, instead of simply lurking. this doesn't mean that I will be constantly checking EF all day long and frantically skipping from one thread to the other to make sure that I have appropriately thanked or groaned.

also I think it makes a difference, for people who are a bit uncertain or shy (like me) to summon up all your courage and go to a personal meeting or social event. even in our modern virtual world, there is nothing that beats personal communication.
and there is not one of the 157 smileys on you keyboard that can express so well what a real smile (or groan) can!
