It should not be down to the observation skills spider sense of members to inform about changes that affect all of us.

I correct that for you

Re: Interesting addition to our profiles.

As I don't look at my profile settings nor read the emails sent to be via EF I wouldn't have noticed this. I hope to see threads along the lines of "Why are the special offers so shit" and "Why am I getting special offers for France when I live in Switzerland?" threads any day now.

Exactly. There could be thousands of former members around the world who are no longer connected with Switzerland getting the emails (spam).

Is there a thread on these new terms of use yet?

Well, is there? Is there? I demand an answer.

Or just use this one.

(EDIT: This got merged by the way, in case you are all thinking I am a total spanner)

It's a possibility, but only if they don't read their email in the first place (and in that case, would they really care?)

The very first email users will get - the one you got a little while ago - contains three links: one to view the terms of use, one to change your account settings (i.e. opt in or out of 'special offers') and one to delete your account. The latter doesn't remove your old posts but it disables your profile and takes you off the member list.

We felt that mass email was the best way to notify people of the changes, as the majority of current-or-former users don't log in every day and thus might not see an announcement posted to the forum.

The timing came out a bit off - email wasn't ready to go at the same time technical changes were turned on - and for that I apologize. You can hardly call it an "unannounced" change though, given that we've sent an email about it to every current or former user.

If anything, I'd say this is the most thoroughly communicated decision The Local has made in recent memory.

Thanks for the update. I appreciate your comments but feel that this sort of announcement should have come directly from The Local. I still consider it unannounced as The Local have not advised anything on the forum.

Up to you. I don't see the logic though. You've read the email; whether it arrived from "The Local" or "English Forum Switzerland", how is that not an announcement?

Sorry it didn't come with whatever on-forum fanfare you wanted.

instead of fanfare I think a simple, before the fact, "hello, please be advised.."
would have done it

still no Email here btw.... I know you're concerned.

That's the sort of thing I would have expected. It could have avoided most of the speculation and concerns. It is not the first time that I have mentioned this sort of thing but nobody at The Local seems to pay any attention.

Communication is important.

I don't have it yet either. Maybe it's caught in a spam filter somewhere, but I'm not sure why it would be: I receive thread notifications just fine....

Let's give it a few hours (a day or two?) and if lots of people still haven't received it, we'll post the text on here (will have to be minus the deletion link, of course, as that's a personalized URL.)

In the meantime T&C can be found under the "Imprint" link at the bottom of every page.

Re: Interesting addition to our profiles.

p.s... call me cynical but I also do wonder about the timing of the email ( assuming it ever arrives ) ... I may be wrong but I think peak usage of the forum is monday to friday 9-to-5ish ?

send an announcement guaranteed to cause furore at the end of that period and by Monday morning the fires of moral outrage have calmed?

but again.. thats probably just me being cynical

isn't it?
