If only there was another site we could all mass migrate to. If such a place existed we would all be able to shoot the breeze freely together. (see what i did there -for those who know)

I did offer to purchase the site when Mark passed, but i could not even get my foot in the door to throw my money on the table.

My pockets are deep, its a shame.

cheers

That 'rebellion' was exactly three years ago and has only attracted 481 members to date.

Hopefully, The Local will one day realise that EF is much more than a financial commodity.

Well, I'm a bored Unix Systems Engineer if you're wanting to be a sugardaddy for the system and hosting bills.

My guess is that people suddenly receiving an email from a forum that they've not visited in years just clicked the delete option to ensure they don't get more crap.

But really, what is the big change here? I knew it was public when I joined, I found the forum through google in the first place plus I see numerous "guests" lurking on this board all the time.... If random people can view my posts why should I be bothered about The Local using them?
The content of my posts is not so much of a concern. I don't post that much and whatever I say on here I would say face to face anyhow. But my photographs is something different. On other site I choose who can see them. There are some very good photographers on the forum, so could the pictures they have been kind enough to share, be poached for commercial gain by someone else? That is just wrong.

The censorship also concerns me, the list of content you cannot post about is quite long. The forum has always been a place you could moan about your neighbours, bad service etc, have a heated discussion. I appreciate there are those that take arguments too far but that's why we have the mods. So now out lists limited to what we can discuss, or there could be repercussions. The forum could start becoming very quiet.

1) It's longer in part because it's broken down more clearly. Words like "rude" and "offensive" in the old T&C covered a lot of ground.

2) It's also longer in part because it includes a lot of extra boilerplate of dubious utility. Not allowed to make a post that conceals or obscures a banner ad? How do you even do that?

3) Apply moderatorial discretion with a trowel as is customary, and you'll find none of it really matters anyway. Strictly speaking, half of Complaints Corner ought to have been rooted out under the old T&C, never mind any new ones. The mods haven't changed and neither have the rules.

Hey, I know that datacentre! Actually, hell, I know the kids who own the hosting. Those bitches still owe me a 440R that I leant them!

But, no, the location of the server is not indicative of the laws which apply to it. This is where it gets murky and this is also why I'm not sure why folks are in a bit of a tizzy over a social board (Facebook has much, MUCH, MUCH, more p0wnage than the local does) writing up a fairly generic contract for use.

I'm no lawyer, but I've hung around plenty of them having managed large installations of systems....the truth is that it's kinda uncharted territory. Much like the hat trick that internet sales still evade state sales tax. Boldly go...
