I don't get it
Don't all forums have this in their T&C's nowadays?
Maybe I'm naive but I don't see a major problem.
Maybe I should be cooler and join the flounce brigade.

Flounce, flounce, flounce!
I might actually do it for shits and giggles. Would I be allowed to then register after 27th October with a new account on my terms and conditions for the local/EF?

Strikes me a bit funny - both in the "hahaha" way and in the way that really means ironic / odd - that folks are taken aback by this change.
As much as on an emotional level I'm not so keen on having my words, pictures, or whatever else duplicated for anyone else's gain, long have I realized that once it's out, it's no longer "mine" anyhow.
I suppose those who are objecting NEVER giggled at "failbook" or "lolcats" or those "very demotivational" pictures and things like that. Once it's available for anyone to access, it's available for them to use however they wish and most often, you won't even be aware that it happened let alone be able to do anything about it.
So, if it is an issue for you at all, better to stay away from posting anything anywhere on the internet ever.

So getting back to the original question - how does one delete their own posts? Emails to the administrator have been ignored.

the new T&Cs are wank but post with that in mind. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Flounce, flounce, flounce!

Clearly since the "you" refers to every one of us, it must be allowed.

Thanks jrspet. Yes, have been out enjoying the tail end of the summer the last two days. The email wasn't deliberately designed to go out Friday evening. That's just how it happened that the technology was ready. Here comes a response to the post deletion issue...

Deleting your account does not delete your archive of posts. Nor is deletion of all posts possible on request. You might be able to, in theory, go through your archive and delete one by one. But as others have suggested, we could easily reinstate them again. We probably wouldn't do that in reality, because it would be evil, but we'd be within our legal rights.
The legal status is: You maintain copyright to all posts that you make, but by submitting them to the forum you have granted the forum owners permanent non-revocable rights to use those posts however we like. This is actually nothing new. It has been in the terms for two years already. And indeed, although Mark never created a legally binding terms of use, I think he did indicate the same thing back 2006. It is pretty standard for forums like this that posts can't be deleted. In fact, EF is more liberal than most in allowing deletions at all.
So, you are entitled to delete all your personal data. That is, your account, your registered email address, personal messages, profile info (home town, gender, nationality, personal messages, avatar) and so on. But public forum posts remain property of the forum owners. Please note though, although we say that the post content is our property, that doesn't suddenly mean we are about to do evil things with it. In reality we'll probably never do anything at all, except keep it published right here on this forum in the exact same form as you posted it. The only reason we explictly have these terms is to protect ourselves. Protection against, among other things, someone else stealing the content and publishing it elsewhere.
So in fact, you should view these terms as acting in your favour, not against. They protect your content from going anywhere other than this website.
