Re: Change of TaC: How to delete my posts?

And a comment from our CEO at The Local:

We have put in writing what was essentially the legal situation anyway and we have tightened up the code of conduct somewhat - but don't anticipate any change in the moderation process. We're not trying to catch anyone out or screw anyone but, like it or not, a site with over 300,000 visitors each month needs a clear set of terms and conditions.

One change is that we reserve the right to send you occasional special offers, something which we do in Sweden and really isn't considered intrusive. And of course you can simply opt out of getting these at any time.

Editor Bob,
Thank you for your reply.
An interpretation of the Legalese is more than welcome.

I'd like to ask a question regarding a further point of interpretation:

Will pleasant kindly threads like this one

Re: Change of TaC: How to delete my posts?

Thanks, EB, for taking the time to explain the sudden EF changes Swedish owners came up with and that seem to be happening in all the forums they own without really giving any time to get proper adjustment and important info.

Just a note to all our lovely membership and readership, we are all trying to muddle through this novelty (which isn't really big, or it does not seem like it now), all admin, EB, mods and members. The deletion in my opinion is a major...uhm...how to put it nicely...obstacle, in terms of us chasing a bad guy, but let's see how it goes.

Re: Change of TaC: How to delete my posts?

Editor Bob,

I meant will that kind of thread be allowed due to the fact that the images are found on the web and posted here ?

----------

2 other questions in addendum (last ones):

1) will people be able to continue to discuss and debate about world events ?
(often politics and religion)

2) will our private emails be given to 3rd parties for publicity purposes automatically or will we be allowed to efficiently refuse or at least know the identity of the forsaid commercial 3rd party ?

Thank you

Netcraft suggests that the server is now in the UK. This would suggest that the server is actually under UK jurisdiction. Can you do anything to clarify this?

Thanks! :-)

The new Terms and Conditions say the following about security:
Quote:
Security is paramount to THE LOCAL in respect of your data. We use a variety of software to ensure appropriate security and encryption.
If that is the case, then the least you could do is buy and install an SSL certificate. You can get them for about 10 dollars if you do a search on Google.

Re: Change of TaC: How to delete my posts?

I put some photos online that are of items I've created and intend at some point in the near future to sell. I don't want the Local to have rights to these images and I want to delete them. But I can't work out how to do it as the edit button is gone from my posts. I've no problem with anything I've written online being used. I knew I was putting it out into a public forum and respect that. However, any photo I put up that is my own will from here on in be watermarked the hell out of or only linked to rather than posted. I'm happy to delete the past photos and replace them with links or watermarked images.
Can someone please tell me how I can do this? As per the T&Cs I have the right to do this don't I?

I don't really care about the change in T&Cs, but you could at least make an effort to be honest. Granting you a perpetual, free, non-exclusive license with the right to sub-license is precisely not "the legal situation anyway". And regarding unsolicited offers in Sweden, you may wish to consult Art. 13a Marknadsföringslag.

Hei Nic!

http://www.englishforum.ch/profile.p...ditattachments

If images are on an outside site, just change images with a gigantic watermark and put them back up with the same name. The link on the old threads to the image in question will automatically load the new image with the watermark (just make sure the name of said image is the same as old one!).

Thinking about doing the same, but them I realized that most of my images are of silly comics, so I'm not sure anyone would want to publish that anywhere else...

Re: Change of TaC: How to delete my posts?

I'm really struggling to understand peoples problem with this?

you post something on the internet then you have put it into the public domain, end of story, anyone can then rip off your idea, pictures, banter etc

I would, however, be interested in the legal side of this, so if I post some really slanderous stuff, and the local now own it, I'm off the hook, the local will be sued?

the t&c's are really no different to any other web forum.

Go to Control Panel at the top of the page. On the left hand side select Attachments under Miscellaneous.

You can delete pictures individually, or in pages by selecting the tick box at the top.

Hei BB. People have a little problem with the concept of copyright on the internet. There was a huge scandal a couple of months ago regarding the same topic:

http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news...rnet-hate-fest

You can follow it to find out exactly what public domain means, and what exactly is allowed or not.

Though I cannot control people abusing my images, art I post on the internet is still protected and cannot be used legally without my consent. (when I post it in this site though, if I agree with the T&C, they are allowed to do whatever they want, therefore I understand nic over there wanting to remove them).

And a comment from our CEO at The Local:

We have put in writing what was essentially the legal situation anyway.
The new terms and conditions state The Local (and partners) now have the rights to everything we post. This was NEVER our agreement with Mark, neither express nor implied.

It ALSO states

Quote:
"This license will come to an end at the time you remove such Contents from the Services and upon your notification to THE LOCAL."
How do I do this, please?

None of my posts have a delete button anymore, and as we have seen, de-registering does not remove such Contents from the Services either.

But what concerns me most of all is this clause:

Quote:
Proprietory rights in contents

Regardless of this, a residual or back-up copy of the Contents posted may remain on the servers after you have removed the Contents from the Services, and THE LOCAL maintains the rights to those copies.
I am sure even Swedish law prohibits changing an agreement unilaterally and retroactively. Once I de-register, I want my backups excluded from the agreement, too.

Can you reword the agreement to make clear that this shall be so?
