Well I have started deleting some of my old posts, and this has upset somebody.

I am now prevented from deleting my old posts as the "Edit" & "Delete" buttons have been removed.

Is anybody else receiving such treatment?

P.S. These buttons did not age and disappear, they disappeared during my deleting!

I don't really care about any of this. What I'm waiting for is MN to stop looking over DB's shoulder, so he can post what he really thinks

Untrue, the copyright remains with the creator. You may view, but copying and using it for yourself is stealing.
Well that's what I said: with the new T&Cs, it's no longer "stealing" if you're The Local AB or any of its sub-licensees, because the creator (you) have granted it a license.

I'm so glad we're not all facing nuclear annihilation together, the drama and sheer exaggeration and potential fallout (sic) of the event seriously outweighs a few terms and conditions viewers.

May I suggest a new button after the "Thanks" and "Groan" options? How about a "Drama good enough for Jehovah" option?
I really don't see this as drama. It's clear that many people here are unhappy about the way The Local is alienating the users here. This has just been one of a few examples of late where they have shown they really don't give a damn and have absolutely no idea how to treat us as members. If you don't feel it, I can tell you that I really do (and from some of the guarded comments from the mods, I think they can feel it too).

EF used to be a nice club to hang out in, I just don't feel that anymore on-line... although in the real world the community spirit is still very much alive, as was proven last Saturday in Morges.

Re: List of the self-deleted

Prohibiting rejoining after deleting seems to me a rather heavy-handed move on the part of The Local, somewhat akin to bullying.

The mods on this forum have always been responsible for identifying those who created duplicate accounts and subsequently banning those members. As I know nothing about being a mod, I do not know the details of this process nor the red flags that they look for in performing this chore. However, I feel very sure that they are well-schooled on what to look for. I also believe that this process could be deemed subjective in some, if not many cases, and I trust that their judgments to pull the plug on members, temporarily or permanently, are sound and solid.

If the mods have previously been accorded the ability to essentially make a judgment call as to whether a member should be banned, why can't they also be trusted to make the same call as to whether a member who initially opted out due to the new T&C should be able to return (especially in cases when that member left with good reputation)?

Seems like The Local is a bit of a control-freak and is trying to make things rather black and white, whereas the mods on this forum, IMO, are adept at evaluating shades of gray themselves and acting accordingly.

Should we be expecting EF member "The Local" to declare his/her mod status in the near future?

The "problem" is in fact the opposite it seems. The mods made the call while the honest citizens members of the forum wonder where does the T&C say that if you decline you can never come back.
One of the mods appealed to the "spirit of the law" or whatever, but There is no logical conclusion as to not being able to restart as a new user being that.

For instance: I posted my photograph I took of my grandchildren dancing around a maypole. If some pervert alters that image, which is quite easy to do, then it is still my name on that photo, and I wish to have the right to delete it

(Which at the moment I am unable to, Competition: Post your most beautiful spring photo post number 66)
Why would you post pictures of your grand-children on an internet forum in the first place?

She has not been 'allowed to join again'. Her existing account has been reinstated. This is quite different.

So do you think that the mods are not standing up for the membership of the forum or that The Local is being unreasonable?

(EDIT) Or maybe some of both?

Duplicate accounts are not allowed. Coming back as the same person but under a different username means you are disconnecting yourself from your posting history. Allowing such an avenue would leave it open to abuse which would destroy the forum. Very quickly.

And Grumpy has made similar comments before.

That has been done before by other posters (rather destructive ones according to mod standards) and nothing has happened. as Catalyst said is how the community takes the trolling that matters. a visit to bullshido should give you a nice perspective of things.

Mods are elected? I though they underwent some form of Satanic hazing ritual involving a sheep, a banana and a back copy of The New Statesman from 1996?
