Re: List of the self-deleted

It all went quiet for a while and then seems to have come back with a vengeance this morning

Can somebody explain in ten words what this mornings anger is about?

That has been done before by other posters (rather destructive ones according to mod standards) and nothing has happened. as Catalyst said is how the community takes the trolling that matters. a visit to bullshido should give you a nice perspective of things.
Some users may reinstate their accounts with gold reason, in an ad hoc fashion and at the absolute discretion of the mod team. Getting in a mood and deleting your profile means you'll be spending more than just a visit at bullshido

So there is nowehre on the T&C saying anything like " no coming back as a new persona " is there?. I for one, will turn a blind eye on people I notice are "recycles".

Mods are elected? I though they underwent some form of Satanic hazing ritual involving a sheep, a banana and a back copy of The New Statesman from 1996?
Nah, it was much more fun than that

You have the same terms as everyone else. I suggest you read them. However the mod team are not robots and will continue to make decisions that we feel are in the best interests of the users as a group.

EF used to be a nice club to hang out in, I just don't feel that anymore on-line...
Do you blame The Local for diluting EFs appeal, or the number of people who simply use it as a chat resource / sandpit without actively contributing useful information to life in Switzerland and manage to drown out the camaraderie?

An awful lot of good posters who made serious efforts to build the peerless resource that is EF have seeped away, disappointed in the trash talk and lowest common denominator postings as the Forum expanded. It's certainly not that the EF demographic is dumb: we're pretty golden in that regard (educated, travelled, many professionals, reasonably wealthy) so are you blaming the owners of the site or the Members?

Seems like The Local is a bit of a control-freak and is trying to make things rather black and white, whereas the mods on this forum, IMO, are adept at evaluating shades of gray themselves and acting accordingly.
The Local's legal counsel have clearly said "Woah!" and I've an idea why:

Say a User moans about a service or company in a thread. Said company contact EF and claims it untrue and unfair to be insulted by an anonymous user on their server. What to do?

Oh yeah... individual responsibility... on the interwebs... we can but try.

I'm pretty certain that any nefarious intentions to use any members posts have already been used by entities unknown with access to the internet. Black and white lets us know where we stand, cos the devil's in the detail.

Can I sense a mass Mod resignation?
Nope, but one must be resigned to a lot of housekeeping as a Mod and that means cleaning the bogs, too.

Quote:

The "problem" is in fact the opposite it seems. The mods made the call while the honest citizens members of the forum wonder where does the T&C say that if you decline you can never come back.
One of the mods appealed to the "spirit of the law" or whatever, but There is no logical conclusion as to not being able to restart as a new user being that.
Forum integrity is often corrupted by multiple user identities. Basically, people taking the piss. A private message to Mods with a request will be taken seriously if there's good grounds, otherwise stand by convictions and be yourself. Why anyone would not want to be themselves is perhaps more telling about them than the rules.

We beg to differ.

She has not been 'allowed to join again'. Her existing account has been reinstated. This is quite different.
Yup, "allowed" is not the correct term. Her account was deleted by mistake, as the entire community and beyond knows.

Mod's pet or Editor Bob's pet?

Who actually clicked the "reinstate" button for summerrain, I wonder?
The mods are not Admins. We have no administrative rights on the Forum, and we had to wait until today for those with the appropriate rights to apply them.

That is all.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. Although many would disagree that true democracy is practised in Switzerland.

But this really is OT, and I apologise for leading this thread astray.

Yes, everybody. The "Edit" & "Delete" buttons disappear from posts after a certain period of time (I'm not sure how long).

Please don't delete posts. It disrupts the flow of threads and mods have banned members in the past for doing so. Not that that sanction carries much weight any more, now that one can ban oneself. (Is this a good time to mention MiniMia, too?)
Are you going to change my user name!???? plz, plz, plz!!

Oh. & PS, since it's still all about me, I don't want you guys to go & I want you to stop fighting!! Thank you.

Why would you post pictures of your grand-children on an internet forum in the first place?
Because I believed I owned the image and I was with friends. In my view the owners of this Forum are not behaving correctly. One of the Mods has now thankfully deleted the link to my photo, and it looks like my buttons are coming back again.

I have a Facebook account, which I have suspended, for similar reasons.

Why do I have to kick up a big stink just to get a simple normal function that everyone has? have I annoyed anybody? And how did I do that?

This whole situation has left a very bad taste in my mouth. If I am able to delete my posts I made prior to receiving the E-Mail on 30 September I will not resign.

I have no idea what's going on with your edit buttons. I see edit buttons everywhere (including your posts), and couldn't see anything wrong in your profile when I checked it earlier. Were they missing on all posts? or only on older posts? Have they come back on all posts?

Perpetual editing rights BTW are not "a simple normal function that everyone has" - they're a privilege tied to your rep score (the only privilege so tied, I might add.) This is because in our experience established members are much less likely to abuse the functionality. There are exceptions, of course, and we deal with those on an individual basis. In particular, mass deleting all one's own posts is not considered an acceptable use of the edit function and will result in a ban as it always has done.

In general, if you have good reasons for wanting something (some particular post) edited but don't have the rights to do so yourself, contact a mod.

As an aside, you still do own any images you upload. The new T&C are quite clear on that point. You grant the Local a free perpetual sublicenseable etc. etc. license to use it, but you retain ownership.
