I don't get it...

From what I am reading now, if one person decides she/he does not agree with the new rules and decides to cancel her/his account, she/he is not allowed to come back later when he redeems that she/he can live with the new rules afterall, even though she/he has not broken any rules?

Are we back to the XVIII century, where once decapitated you can't change your head mind?

Not sure if it's been said before but if the big deal is deleting the acc and creating a new one, how about offering the option to reactivate your old account by clicking you accept the T&C?

In that way nobody is using this oportunity to create new accounts and you give the forum members some timeout to think if they really want to stay or not.

By the way I havent gotten the e.mail but i wouldnt be very scared about it, anyways before this new T&C everybody can google what we post and we so or so need to be very careful. (learnt it the harsh way!)

... who's been living in Australia for the last two years.

I suspect quite a few of those who, when the dust settles, will be found to have quietly self-deleted will be simply people like her, who got an email one day from a forum they hadn't visited in months or years - felt no particular desire to visit it again - and poof! (If only decluttering real life were that simple.)

Still, it's a bit weird for the rest of us... happening across posts from someone you used to know on EF - perhaps still do in real life - and suddenly they're gone. Not just 'not posting these days': gone. Can't click their profile, can't search their posts, what was that thing she posted once about her downstairs neighbor, had us all in stitches at the time but where is it now? It does give you a start and an odd empty feeling for a minute.

Speaking personally (i.e. thinking as a mod, but not on behalf of the entire mod team) - yeah, I'd be cool with that if we had the option.

Unfortunately we mods don't have the ability to reinstate anyone (as we found out when summerrain was deleted by accident) nor does EdBob, and I doubt Stockholm - given their apparently-preferred level of involvement so far - are going to be too keen on dealing with protracted fallout, people deleting and changing their minds and coming back again. The undelete for every user has to be done manually, there's not a click button for it. (which is also why I would have argued for some 'softer' form of delete option - but hey, nobody asked me. )

In the meantime, if anybody wants some "time out to think" - they're welcome to log out and take it. How much time will it take you though to consider this particular life-changing decision from all angles? A day? A week? Two weeks? Come on, that's longer than you'd get to cogitate on the average apartment/car/job/indecent proposition around here.

We've been discussing it already for over a week, and as of now you've still got 16 days left (OK, 15 days and twenty minutes.) I really do think that should be enough time for most people.

Hmm, on boards where I moderate I can ban and unban using the vBulletin Moderator Control Panel. Look and see if you have Mod enabled in the strip on the bottom right of the page. If not, it is easy for an Admin to enable it for you.

I am not sure how things are moderated at your VBulletin, but we are not talking about banning. We are talking about an option members have now, which is self delete their profile from the database. When I ban, I don't delete the profile, but temporarily disable member's access.

Re: List of the self-deleted

But if it also disables their User Name and password, isn't that a ban? Perhaps the e-mail delete includes a profile delete, but after the user chooses the delete, they no longer have access, no? Perhaps you can't reinstate the profile, but you should be able to reinstate access in the Moderator Control panel.

Yes, ban has timed bans and permanent ban, but in the control panel all can be reversed.

Self delete is not a ban. That person ceased to exist in the database, basically, only his posts stay.

This is more like clicking "Delete User" in the ACP. It takes a few SQL commands to get the user back.
