Technically, a duplicate account would require it to be a duplicate. It can't be a duplicate if the original account no longer exists, as one can't have a duplicate of nothing.
So just sign up again using a different name. But add "_loser" to the end so we know you're one of the knee-jerk-deleted-my-account-out-of-spite people.

so are the t&c's so different??
I though it was just so the local can send email spams straight to my junk folder?
if people are really that bothered then they should pack up there pc's and never turn them on again.

I wish that Stockholm dictating changes (and rather abruptly, too) without thinking them through and without providing adequate notice, justification or guidance to their voluntary moderation team that supports their income-generating business was also prohibited in the new T&C.

I haven't got the email either. Does it mean that my account will be deleted as I haven't agreed to the T&C's |

| | Re: Tara a Bit | Quote: | | | | | We'll still find you. Not everything is an IT equation, geek boy. | | | | | Very true.
The thing is that people tend to be a bit dim, and have trouble hiding their linguistic tics and real life biographies and expertise. Anyone with half a brain and enough time to waste spotting them can nail a duplicate account fairly easily. You don't need to have all the special info upon which I'm sure the moderators and admin rely, just a keen eye and a visceral hatred of cowardice and dishonesty.
Of course, it helps if it's a member who used to have a high profile, otherwise there isn't really anything worth looking for. The ideal ones to spot are former members with high post counts who made a dramatic departure - perhaps deleting all their posts before they went - or who have an unusual specialism - perhaps aeronautics or linguistics or sometihing equally nerdy. New members with an extensive knowledge of EF history or past EF buzzwords are also likely candidates.
Proving it, though - well, there's the rub. And I suppose if a new/old member behaves himself under his new username, where's the harm?
Apart from the fact that we all know who they are, and aren't particularly impressed... |

Well I made it clear in a recent thread that I am a techie dinosaur!
How does one open more than one account? Changing the name is easy enough - but don't they recognize your computer? Not that I want to do it, just understand how.

It's like being on the run from the FBI, but sadder.

I don't see any point in deleting an account. It is a permanent move, not a 'flounce'.
Getting on for 500 people have left so far. I guess that most of them were people who got the email and do not use EF on a regular basis.
I wish that The Local would take a long hard look at their lack of customer service and communication skills. Most of this situation could have been avoided with proper communication IN ADVANCE.
I feel sure that the vast majority of people accept that changes are inevitable. To be honest, none of the changes to date have amounted to anything significant on the operation of EF for most of us. The new terms are not that different to terms that we have probably accepted on many other sites.
Editor Bob acknowledged that this was not handled as well as it could have been: | Quote: | | | | | I see your point, Deep Purple. We should have posted to the Announcements forum simultaneous to the email going out. I don't know why we didn't because in hindsight it seems like the obvious thing to do. Afterall, that's what the Announcements forum is for. Will definitely keep it in mind for next time. | | | | | Had this been an isolated incident, I could accept this. Sadly, it has been the norm for a variety of changes in recent months.

If my boss was acting like this, I'd be upset.
