Re: How seriously are you considering departing EF permanently?

I've considered leaving a few times since the Local took over, not because of commercial ownership per se but because of the arrogant way they deal with the members here.

But I doubt I will leave, I have been posting less recently and I will post even less in the future.

In the beginning, when I joined this forum, and up until now, I have been quite happy to share with the community here humourous stories of my life in this country and how I sell what I sell to the locals, as well as passing on valuable lessons that I have learnt about food, running a business, farm, animal/pets and country issues etc.

But now the commercial owners have made it very clear, albeit in a very clumsy and arrogant way, that they have the right to sell on and share my work, I won't be sharing as much from now on... I'll be saving all of that for publishing elsewhere.

I've already deleted my very few uploaded photos here (I understand that photos elsewhere that I just link to cannot be shared or sold by them, so they remain mine) and have started editing out just a few commercially sensitive stories from my posts that I intend to keep for myself for use later.

If I get banned for doing that, then I guess yes, I am leaving.

I totally understand where you are coming from GG, especially as you have a book deal to honour. I am not interesting enough or funny enough to attract a publisher so EF is welcome to my drivel.

Re: How seriously are you considering departing EF permanently?

Now is the right time for me to bow out, I think. I donít use EF to socialize and I donít use it to promote or sell anything. Nearly all my posts are to exchange an opinion or share a little knowledge and experience of living here. Thatís why I joined in the first place and why I was happy to donate financially to it in its darker moments.

Why is the time right for me?
Not because of the new T&Cs. Every playground needs safety rules. Itís the localís playground so their rules apply.
Method of communication..I couldnít care less. Itís not a democracy.
Deadline..there has to be one.
Penalty..well, you canít expect to play unless you sign up to the rules can you?

For me, it's simply because the new T&Cs are accompanied with the threat of a permanent lock out. Thatís holding a gun to my head and I donít like that.

That leaves one last thing. My thanks to the playground supervisors. You mods do a grand job.

Re: How seriously are you considering departing EF permanently?

I voted for the last option this morning, but TBH as the day goes on and I see more of the (semi) official responses and note what's being ignored then I feel I'm being swayed.

Perhaps I'll avoid reading the rest of this debate and see what comes out in the wash.

Would it be that of a problem to setup a new forum, or even better use the framework/services offered by the Stackoverflow/Stackexchange?

Re: How seriously are you considering departing EF permanently?

5Aveci is gone too.

I just wanted to add something....

Can people please remember before deleting themselves, that this forum has provided masses of support to people here in CH and if we all flounce they'll be nobody to:

*collectively support each other in times of tragedy
*raise funds to help families in the event of tragic circumstances
*house doggies, cats, birds when they need our help
*offer beds for the night when people are stuck
*help people when they need a safe place when scared of their partner
*create social events to link expats together when the first arrive

These things won't exist with a databank of useful information. Agreed that their is a wealth of knowledge already here but you can't beat human interaction, even if it merely a kind word.
