I'll miss the curry nights, GrumpyGrapefruit's cheese events, the curry nights, the now-defunkt Regular Wednesday Drinks 'n' Chat and the Sunday Brunch (which I wanted to take over after Nils left). And I missed JustRose's pubcrawl and was looking forward to the next one.

I really hope someone can suggest a server with less onerous conditions.
I would offer to host it myself, but my Terms & Conditions would include compulsory poppadum tax at the curry nights, and the donation of a large Weizen at every stop on the bar crawl.

I'm just not cut out to be a benevolent dictator, I'm afraid

Most of these events, and more, are arranged on Facebook. The main ones are duplicated here, but not all.

As long as no one attempts to read Facebook's T&Cs we're all good.

Well for me the beauty of the EF is I can see events created in other cities in Switzerland and can choose, if I wish, to travel out of Basel for them.

A lot of the Basel events that I've seen are created on a Basel related Facebook page with mainly it's members being based in Basel.

Don't tell anyone I said so, but I think you can see the events including the posts about them, even as a Guest. What you cannot do, is reply to say you are coming.

The EF vs That Cheese Thingy is becoming the Apple vs Android debate, i.e. Beauty vs Brains.

From what I've heard, the other place was never set up to be 'vs EF' at all, but a complementary site offering something else, like free beer . It even had Editor Bob as a guest before he/The Local decided to buy the EF.
But then reference to it was not allowed here and it was obviously seen here not as complementary, but as competitive, to the EF.
I think there's enough room for both.

That's what she said.
They certainly don't have a problem mentioning the site at all. and if you dig enough there are some awesome diamond-like posts. Considering what they post recently.

Now is the right time for me to bow out, I think. I donít use EF to socialize and I donít use it to promote or sell anything. Nearly all my posts are to exchange an opinion or share a little knowledge and experience of living here. Thatís why I joined in the first place and why I was happy to donate financially to it in its darker moments.

Why is the time right for me?
Not because of the new T&Cs. Every playground needs safety rules. Itís the localís playground so their rules apply.
Method of communication..I couldnít care less. Itís not a democracy.
Deadline..there has to be one.
Penalty..well, you canít expect to play unless you sign up to the rules can you?

For me, it's simply because the new T&Cs are accompanied with the threat of a permanent lock out. Thatís holding a gun to my head and I donít like that.

That leaves one last thing. My thanks to the playground supervisors. You mods do a grand job.

Would it be that of a problem to setup a new forum, or even better use the framework/services offered by the Stackoverflow/Stackexchange?
Thanks to you both for years of interesting and informative posts. I'm sorry you feel you have to leave. Sadly, many of the people who put the scaffolding and bricks into this site rarely return. I guess it's because of the graffiti and the drunk asleep in the doorway. However, like a beautiful Cathedral made of marble, EF remains the premier site for... [ continues droning on for another six paragraphs. See p.96 ]

There is a non-EF EF

Why does my life feel suddenly empty?

Is it faster than EF? Available in white and black?
