DB. You're far to young to have been watching either of these. You have to have watched them first time round to be eligible

Not anymore she isn't.

(but if you think that means you're getting a cup of tea, at this hour of the night...)

Re: Year Zero

You are just teasing right?
Thought I'd ask, not sure I understand anything anymore here.

Though sometimes with hindsight, one can be tempted to weed out any really personal information, which may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but then wasn't, I still think you've got to stand by what you've written.

People need to keep the option of editing and deletion, simply because we are emotional beings and somebody can suddenly have an outburst of feeling both tears or happiness that they need to share at that moment, but could/should reconsider after as it remains a public place.
Like all good things, it needs to be used if felt nescessary by the writer.
And by necessary I don't mean according to a Mod's judgement (even if decent and good) but according to your own common sense and what makes you feel personally comfortable and doesn't hinder anybody else.

I can't imagine wiping out the counter either for my thanks (given or received) or groans (only received, still haven't given any).

It would be as if I hadn't existed for 2.5 years.

Nope: deadly serious.

Groans, thanks, reputation and user status serve no useful function whatsoever, other than to breed resentment, backslapping and cliquiness.

If we did away with them, each post would be taken on its own merits, rather than according to the status of a user.

One would still be able to search for old posts, of course, and it would be nice if we could retain the edit function - but really, what is the use of all these silly baubles?

I haven't seen a good argument yet for their retention.

I'm with ya but, you know the cheese, people migrated and still "cliquey". That's alright for me, but just saying that merely resetting won't help

The cheese place is a clique, and always was from the start. That's kind of the whole point of the place. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it's not the best example of a new forum to use, especially when you consider that they have also retained the Thanks and Groans system.

Get rid of Thanks, Groans, rep and user status and you might end up with a horse of an entirely different colour.

The cheese had just received a migrated clique from here, that's all im saying. And so far (as far as my deep sea exploration abilities go) i haven't found a page akin to the extra. So other than racing with yourself you couldn't tell who is higher or lower. I do grant that this particular non-finding is a good thing.

Re: Year Zero

You think I have time to read every post on here?*

I have to make quick decisions. If someone has more thanks than me, then they're an arse licker without their own opinion and I don't read their posts. If someone has less thanks than me then they're an antisocial psychopath whose posts I refuse to read. If they have the same number of thanks as me then their post is likely to be extremely funny and also packed full of accurate information.

* Well, I do, but that's not the point.

Re: Year Zero

How about a compromise: keep the Thanks and Groans for individual posts, but don't have them listed on our profiles?

(But still ditch the reputation system and member status labels.)
