Do you believe the mods weren't privy to the new T&C's before the emails went out? I am not so sure....
We weren't and have said so many times.

Even if we were, what kind of benefit would we have to keep this kind of info unexplained to people and sit on it? So we can get busy reinstating accounts? Knowing something and not acting on it, not sharing, not explaining, would in fact complicate our bonds and housekeeping even more. We have a team of pretty decent mod folks.. But I do get the lack of trust, it was a logical consequence.

Paul are you then saying that it is allowed for members to do so?

I'm sorry if it sounds like a leading question. but I very much like this clarified for the benefit of those who, while contributing, feel they can keep themselves here if they have the option.
I'm sorry if this comes across as a bit dense, but I don't get the point. If someone wants to remain a member why don't they just remain a member? What's the point of resigning and rejoining?

It's what a couple of the mods have posted. I have no reason to doubt them.

Sorry I mis wrote above - I believe the mods will have known the email was going out, whether they had read the T&C's or not I have no idea. But I doubt EB wouldn't have forewarned them about the email

Sometimes people change their mind. Sometimes people regret their actions.

Perhaps this could give more insite as to a possible situation. We would have to ask the user if it is infact relevant but as my understanding it could be.

How seriously are you considering departing EF permanently?

You are incorrect on this Nicky. No Mod was forewarned for the record.

Because maybe someone thinks if they close their previous account all their posts will fall under the previous T&C's - then when they open a new one after the 27th they are fully aware of the new T&C's and ill bear those in mind for all future posting - it's what i posted earlier in this thread

Can this be the case?

Or are ALL of our posts (mine dating back to early 2006) now to fall under T&C's that didn't exist in 2006? - or are only posts made after 27th Oct to fall under the new T&Cs

The T&Cs come into force on Oct 27, so from that date, those are the rules of the forum. As I've said before, there's no material difference in how we will deal with that content - the new T&Cs just state the policies explicitly.

If we found content that was posted on the site before Oct 27 that we considered to be illegal or offensive or otherwise not in the best interests of EF, we wouldn't just leave it up there because it was posted before the new T&Cs. But we wouldn't have left it up before, either.

I'm afraid I don't understand the point of resigning your account!
Thanks for the answer. I am merely trying to understand the current issues from both sides. I'd just like to start again with a new account and name regardless of T&Cs as expressed previously so was hoping for a loop hole

Paul at The Local, you aren't being dense...you just have to get into the minds of these people...

Yep. And I think he was in the same boat. Not that it makes any difference, since knowing before, and knowing what it means, brainstorm through hypothetical scenarios and consequences, and how to digestably present it to our members...how long would that take?

It's ok, aren't we all bunch of folks knowing how to stick together, help eachother and improvise...

As you clearly did not anticipate the concerns that the current changes would lead to, have you considered that running a media organisation may not be the right career choice for you, especially as this is not the first similar lack of judgement?

As for the way we implemented the T&Cs - it was a bit silly of us not to post about it first. What happened was this: we asked a lawyer in Germany about some changes to the impressum - and added the open question 'is there anything else we should think about' that is probably best to be avoided when talking to lawyers.
.....

Of course, it would have been the easiest thing in the world to have posted them first...

Yeah, you make that clear ..Let's not stone anyone, no need. Mods, members, nor EB, nor TL, since, hey, everyone will cope. And, next year this time, we will look for damn brown sugar, offer stomach turning nursing tips, split ego fights, show off who knows more and who can dish out sarcasm in the least detectable ways...

Catalyst. Please would you explain the reason for your groan? This is a genuine and serious question to Paul.
