EDIT: who can email/pm me a copy of that last paragraph? sounds like it was a corker!
Imagine your mate telling you about the girl who just dumped him. It wasn't that spectacular really, out of order- yes-, but whaaaaeva.

I've just had a look at the Who's Online section over there.

This announcement has done more to increase traffic than anything else over the last week.

Cheers, EB!

Clearly this behaviour is not compatable with being a moderator on this forum. For one it has fragmented what was until recently a stable cohesive moderation team on EF. It is also a very severe breach of the trust he was given. And most importantly, a breach of privacy in that your IP addresses, email address, and other private data can be exported, cross-matched, used, and possibly misused elsewhere. Hence the reason for his removal.

(...)
We need clear answers on the highlighted section:

1) do you have activity logs in your back-end showing that large sets of private data have been accessed and exported?

2) What are you doing do prevent misuse of private data and protect the registered users?

3) When you ask people to join mods team do they sign or agree to specials terms & conditions regarding confidentiality, respect of data privacy?

I am very annoyed by the evolution of this forum and I wouldn't be surprised to see a "slight" change in the number of active members on the 27 october.

Thank you - I was about to post the exact same thing.

Guys, what say we just all let it go and move on?

Economisto has deleted his EF membership, Ed Bob has removed his over emotional paragraph and we've all said our piece.

This sort of thing is possible for any moderator to do. Economisto did NOT do this.

I respect that you have to adhere to the rules and am happy to help; I assume glocals is also within scope of that position?

http://www.englishforum.ch/search.php?searchid=7169677

So to be clear, www.whatever.ch is not permitted but whatever dot ch would be?
This is bollocks and inconsistent. My post has been edited for one "rival" site but glocals has been left.

Mathnut, I appreciate your conflict of interests but ffs please also remove glocals.com mentions too or do nothing at all.

Re: Forum promotions / Expansion of the moderation team

Kudos to EB for spending time removing his heated paragraph and also all quotes/links of it.

It's sad that there is a parallel forum set up. I was told about it a week or so ago and my initial comments still seem valid to me.

It's a total copy of this forum (layout, forum groups/titles etc), but that's not really a big issue as it's the content which counts for an online forum not the layout. However, it does prove that it was set up out of spite.

The main problem I have with it is that, despite people here saying how they'll post to both (yeah, right - same quality of information on both? Don't kid yourselves) all this will achieve is a diluting of not only the expat community but also the information contained within this online resource.

For that reason I won't be joining any other forum (not that it appears to show anything more than a white screen right now) and will be staying here unless this forum completely implodes. And, catch22, it'll only do that if a critical mass leave.

Did traffic crash the other forum? I guess P.T. Barnum was right...no such thing as bad publicity.

Pretty sure we've been through all this already with regard to the cheesy forum...

In answer to your question: "whatever dot ch" is a disguised attempt to link, won't be tolerated. "The Whatever Forum" still won't be tolerated but may slip under the radar (suspect this is what happened with most/all of the gl0cals mentions on your list.)

Come on though. If the new forum is as high-minded as its early memberlist would indicate, I do not expect to spend my time combing EF for sneaky mentions of "Wh4t3ver F0rum" and "whatever point see aitch". As far as I'm concerned, that's beneath you guys. PMs are there, use 'em, but keep it off the forum.

You misunderstand - I can respect and understand www. ---- being removed but why not g-----.com too?

If there is a rival forum rule then there is a rival forum rule - I'm ok with that. I think also the PM mentioned links but it's actually mention of in reality.

Don't worry, I won't post it again - I just seek consistency.

You piss INTO the wind - not against it. If you go against you'll get wet trousers.
