For that reason I won't be joining any other forum (not that it appears to show anything more than a white screen right now) and will be staying here unless this forum completely implodes. And, catch22, it'll only do that if a critical mass leave.
Locks arms and starts singing as camera pans out in expensive helicopter shot.

I signed up on the cheesy forum a while back, not due to crisis here, but hoping there would be juicy gossip about EF . There wasn't. Then I found out I was rather close to a mod- yeah!- no gossip, that mod's like a steel trap. Judging by the volume of posts on el cheeso, I can't imagine the new forum will do much better beyond the honeymoon period. Probably a few more heavies from here will be cross posting or exclusively posting there than TBC (the big cheese yo), but what gives a forum life is the constant banter and influx of newbies and, yes, the bellyaching of the old farts.

EF: battered and bruised as you are, I'm sticking with you and your chlamydia and warts and all.

We need clear answers on the highlighted section:

1) do you have activity logs in your back-end showing that large sets of private data have been accessed and exported?

2) What are you doing do prevent misuse of private data and protect the registered users?

3) When you ask people to join mods team do they sign or agree to specials terms & conditions regarding confidentiality, respect of data privacy?

I am very annoyed by the evolution of this forum and I wouldn't be surprised to see a "slight" change in the number of active members on the 27 october.

This sort of thing is possible for any moderator to do. Economisto did NOT do this.
The fact remains that Economisto behaved in a very underhand manner, essentially creating another competing forum while still having access to privileged information here. Had he been open and honest and resigned from being a mod stating that he was setting up another forum then fine, but he didn't. His behaviour has been deceitful, dishonest, and thoroughly disrespectful.

For the record I was 100% behind his removal from the mod team.

EF: battered and bruised as you are, I'm sticking with you and your chlamydia and warts and all.
I think this sums it up rather nicely then

Inflammation of the foreskin
Reminds me of your smile.
I've had ballanital chancroids
For quite a little while.
I gave my heart to NSU
That lovely night in June.
I ache for you, my darling,
And I hope you get well soon.

My penile warts, your herpes,
My syphilitic sores.
Your moenelial infection,
How I miss you more and more.
Your dobie's itch, my scrumpox,
Our lovely gonnorrhea,
At least we both were lying,
When we said that we were clear.

Our syphilitic kisses,
Sealed the secret of our tryst.
You gave me scrotal pustules,
With a quick flick of your wrist.
Your trichovaginitis
Sent shivers down my spine;
I got snail tracks in my anus
When your spirochetes met mine.

Gonoccocal urethritis, streptococcal
ballinitis, meningo myelitis,
diplococcal cephalitis, epididimitis,
interstitial keratitis, syphilitic
choroiditis, and antertior u-ve-i-tis.

My clapped out genitalia
Is not so bad for me,
As the complete and utter failure
Every time I try to pee.
My doctor says my buboes
Are the worst he's ever seen,
My scrotum's painted orange
And my balls are turning green.

My heart is very tender
Though my parts are awful raw,
You might have been infected
But you never were a bore.
I'm dying of your love, my love
I'm your spirochaetal clown,
I've left my body to science
But I'm afraid they've turned it down.

Gonoccocal urethritis, streptococcal
ballinitis, meningo myelitis,
diplococcal cephalitis, epididimitis,
interstitial keratitis, syphilitic
choroiditis, and antertior u-ve-i-tis.

Gosh, leave EF for a few days and look what happens.

Thank you Economisto for your efforts to keep the site fair and straight. You did a good job and I'm sorry you felt you had to delete your account.

This is bollocks and inconsistent. My post has been edited for one "rival" site but glocals has been left.

Mathnut, I appreciate your conflict of interests but ffs please also remove glocals.com mentions too or do nothing at all.
You're very welcome to put in several hours of your free time to help mods tidy up / housekeep by linking each and every thread; we're too busy right now keeping the emergency exits clear for those who heard "Fire!" to trawl through over a million posts loooking for mentions to other sites. Come on Honey...

Re: Forum promotions / Expansion of the moderation team

I wish the spats causing alternative expat forums to be created could be more limited. This proliferation of online communities causes much confusion and rapidly fills the bookmark menu of one's web browser. Event organisers especially must be contemplating the management overhead when having to post the same announcement in several places. Hopefully they will be able to find volunteer secretaries to do this thankless task.

Re: Forum promotions / Expansion of the moderation team

I think Paul and EB instead of wasting time on making new T&C that irritates a lot of people, should invest a little bit more time on making special T&Cs for their mods to avoid such weird situations (non-compete clause).....but that would probably imply no free mods anymore.
That's really what irritates me they are more thinking on protecting their own business and interest that thinking about "us" the community. Our interest is finally their interest.

my cynical nature wonders... yet another communication cock up

or part of a cunning plan to get rid of those evil Diva's , and rep..whores that feel the need to post on and on and yada yada yada.................
As a Geneva member, the whole thing does feel far away and kind of silly, doesn't it? I just want a place to post, all the drama about "vision" or the place being "rudderless" is really really really lame. Starting a new forum (of which the site doesn't seem to work that well, BTW) just seems to needlessly split the posters and will end up doing more harm than good for both forums in the end. I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe the reality on the ground in German Switzerland where everybody knows each other was more complex, but none of the problems people mention appear that serious or insurmountable. I tend to think that sticking around fixing things from the inside is more productive than jumping ship. And again, repeat after me, it's only an internet forum. Economisto was one of my favourite posters and seemed like a really smart guy, so I hope his project pans out, and also hope it has less to with personal ambition and more an honest belief he is going to improve things. My gut tells me it's the former. I don't know, I could be wrong. But claiming that it's "not meant to be competition" is kind of laughable, let's not kid ourselves.

I'm having a hard time seeing how this will turn into anything positive and I think EF as a posting/information platform (no more, no less) will never be the same. I hope everyone involved feels good about what they're doing.

Word, I think cleaning and reorganizing housestaff is in order. I think there'll still be people (as there still are) who do the work for free without all the bark, as there are people who sitll believe in the community.

My sentiments about the issue are well known and shall be expressed in person to the administration.

I'm sad to see eco go in this way.

Re: Forum promotions / Expansion of the moderation team

So, here's the 20 Minuten summary of all that has happened for all you seasoned commuters who have lost the ability to read anything longer than one paragraph because you're like, so totally important:

"They said, it will be tweaked, they responded,"oh no, that's really bad!"
"No it isn't" he said. "Yes it is". "No". "Yes". "No". "Yes". (repeat ad infinitum).

Then big strong Viking man offered peace laurel in Zwingli Stadt. "Oh no", they cried, "tis only a Trojanischer Pferd, we're not that dumb and what about all the peasants working so hard in the fields way beyond, where the mountains are high and capped with white stuff on which they that can afford, do ski?".

"Right, I'm off to get me a posse", said the financial one and rode off into the sunset with his merry wannabe investors to re-create the wheel, because round is not all that it's cracked up to be.

This EF update was brought to you courtesy of News International, where privacy is just a legal inconvenience.

I think that if Economisto and the other moderators had initially received full disclosure of the new T&C's and had the opportunity to discuss them with representatives of The Local, this situation might be vastly different. At minimum, Economisto would have been able to express his disagreement and concerns in a manner that might not have resulted in his abrupt exit from EF and the dramatics that have accompanied it.

If The Local is bent upon setting up forums of this sort elsewhere, it appears that EF was the unfortunate "guinea pig."

It's morning still- good to streeeetch a bit. So-

If- Econo had really set up a forum that was not intended as competition, it wouldn't be essentially a copy of EF in layout.

If- Econo had wanted to set up something that really (or not, wouldn't matter at this point) wasn't to be competition, and had said 'hey, I'm setting up another forum- one that won't be competing with EF', all would be fine. Perhaps if it still ran too parallel to EF he would be asked to step down.

And no need for schooling mods on what should be common sense.

But- Econo set up more or less a carbon copy of EF, invited members from here to join, and ran it for what, a week?, while remaining a mod here. He could have stepped down. He could have said something. But he didn't, and that caused EB to write a rather unseemly post announcing his removal as Mod, and now Econo has deleted himself, I presume as a result of EB's post but for whatever reason it does punctuate and sort of officiate his status and his forum's new status- as the new place. He didn't set up a forum on Trout Fishing in America, he set up a-n-o-t-h-e-r EF, roit?

Once again- whaaaeva. I'm sad to see him gone, and hope there aren't too many ship jumpers.
