| | Re: Thread split following economisto's removal | Quote: | | | | | Depends lets say you lose the top 50 daily posters + anyone over 1k posts. These people prop the forum up and make it what it is. They have the knowledge and form the majority of contributions.
I would say if that happened it would be pretty severe for EF, side line is a mods life maybe a little easier | | | | | I agree (to everything, including the easier life for mods ).
You do need to consider the quality of the top 50 posters, though. One name springs immediately to mind -- that person is a member of both forums and I sincerely hope that the fluff factor on EF will henceforth be on the opposite trend to that of the other forum.

The problems with EF lie entirely within EF and cannot be laid at the door of other forums, offline squabbles or anything else.
And, as always, they'll blow over like they always do.
I can't see any big changes to the EF happening any time soon, but I've now got somewhere else I can go for restaurant recommendations if I can't be bothered trawling through 15 pages of LOLcats to find them.

(..) | | | | | I did not blame any other forum so far in my posts. I'm really questioning & challenging the EF policy.

Does the forum seem any quieter this morning than last Thursday morning? | | | | | | Quote: | | | | Betwen you and me, I suspect that to the beancounters of any multinational, no matter how small that multinational may be, numbers speak very loudly... | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | I don't have any statistical evidence but only my subjective assessment: the EF has been a less attractive place for me in the last 2 months. | | | | | Membership numbers did drop by at least 400 following the new T&C email. The total was around 56,100 members. At the same time new members joined (or returned). Currently, the numbers are around 100 down on the pre-T&C figure.
More noticable is the drop in the number of members posting. The figure is down from 1280 to 1186 in the last week. This is a far greater percentage drop than the membership figure. If you excluded those who have mainly posted about the new T&C etc. I am sure that the number is quite significant, and will be causing concern to The Local (or it should be) http://www.englishforum.ch/xtra/stats_by_week.php

Mark's Law suggests growth will continue, fluffeh will make an occasional appearance and LOLcats will continue to be an Internet phenomenon. As will EF.
