my twopence worth:
I am very sorry to see economisto go but I do have to say that I think he often blurred the distinction between impartial mod and firebrand poster on several occasions. however, I would like to see him back as I always think he added to the debate and the fun. I hope he deletes his new forum and comes back to EF. I also hope that the managers of the EF are big enough to have him back and reinstate him as a mod.
I have seen this breakaway forum nonsense on more than one occasion and all that happens is that ALL foums suffer. this forum has critical mass which means it has genuine diversity, the worst sites are the incestuous cliquey ones that have the same members chatting to themselves in their own code who eventually look at any new posters as hijackers of their forum.
fwiw, I don't see how this place has lost its direction.

Quick, brief glossary of terms:
T&C ( not tickle and cuddle) = Terms and Conditions.
Flying alien on bicycle = Extra Terrestial ......
where the initials could mean one of the following:
1st - French, German, English, Italian
2nd - speak, hear, listen, talk.
Then smile for the camera and say ch eese.

Reminds me of the late 70s comedy spoof flick prior to "Airplane" the "Magic Bus" the atomic bus with two drivers and two steering wheels joyfully steering their own way oblivious to the actions of the other or the road.

I find all these references to "A-Listers" and "High-rollers" a bit depressing.
None of us is more important than anyone else. It doesn't matter whether a member has made 20 000 posts or 3 posts - we're all equal members of a forum spread across the whole of Switzerland and beyond.
So what if one or two prolific posters decide to leave? They will be replaced. None of us is expendible. None of us is that special.
This was the point I was trying to make in the Drinks thread yesterday, which I obviously struggled to express properly. The forum belongs to all of us, whether we live in Zurich or Geneva, whether we joined in 2005 or 2011, whether we have organised 100 events or none, whether we have 100 rep points or none, whether we post every day or once every two years.
Let's not elevate some members to a status they don't really deserve, and let's not belittle the contribution of the quieter members either.
The EF will continue as it always has. That there are alternatives for those who seek them doesn't make any difference to that.

I thought I was being the sleuth this morning when I linked UTH's post about only noobs posting today with Editor Bob's announcement regarding Economisto. I was happy for a couple of minutes, feeling all accomplished and such, until I realized I was really w-a-y behind.
And what did I get for all of it? My name as the OP of this split thread and likely the reputation as a whinger.

I've only been on this forum for a couple of months & while all the drama seems a bit much, it makes for an interesting read between looking at job search sites :-P
One thing that does strike me as strange though, is how you can't name another forum on here. It all seems very "high school", no?
"If you even mention their name, I won't be your friend any more!"
I'm sure when people started mentioning Google+ on Facebook Zuckerberg didn't freak out & start deleting posts. He simply improved his platform & let history & familiarity do its thing. I mean, not that it is, but what is a little competition?
It helps with keeping improvements coming, rather than letting a giant start acting like it's the only one around & begins to do what it likes... (From what I've seen so far, look at SBB...prices are ridiculous because it rules the tracks! NB. I know it's not the only train system here, but still...)
Just a few thoughts I've had, as I read through this thread.
