| | Thread split following economisto's removal This announcement generated a large amount of discussion which has now been given its own thread, to keep the Announcements thread on topic.

I guess this may have something to do with the question belying this thread posted earlier today. Regulars not posting...
Sad, as the A-listers are the members who have the ability and knowledge to contribute a significant percentage of the useful information on this forum.

I consider Economisto my friend , and believe I am privvy to information that EB does not have. In this respect, the issues raised by EB above appear to me to be nothing more than a cynical bitter attack on Economisto. Unjustified and wholly unprofessional. It is a shameful attempt at character assassination, legally dubious and a betrayal.

He's got a tough skin.

This is one thing I never saw on this forum from any mods. They all have too much class and dignity to go down that road about a member of this forum. Not even with the worst of the trolls we had in here.
Disgusting.

I am a moderator on the other forum (I know 'lol' right) and think the last paragraph in Uncle Bob's post is completely unnecessary.
I'd like to know from Editor Bob how the other forum can and has been used to promote Economisto's financial services firm.

| | Re: Forum promotions / Expansion of the moderation team | Quote: | | | | | Clearly this behaviour is not compatable with being a moderator on this forum. For one it has fragmented what was until recently a stable cohesive moderation team on EF. It is also a very severe breach of the trust he was given. | | | | | OK, fair enough. I don't agree that members were poached, but that's a minor thing. | Quote: | | | | | [paragraph removed] | | | | | Sorry, I think this is out of order. Thank you for letting us know Editor Bob. Economisto was a pretty awesome mod and great contributor to the forum. I hope he does continue posting here.
Just on a side note Editor Bob, obviously the wounds are still raw but it's never a good idea to make personal attacks in a professional setting.

And fwiw, I am a member of the forum that isn't the cheese thing.
And fwiw again, none of this would likely have snowballed without the ham-fisted T&C issue. Whilst you did have legal input, you might have first announced it and secondly, when announced, put it into clear English rather than legalise bullshit that nothing significant would change and the main facts are you must protect THE LOCAL brand (love the caps) and that posts remain copyright to people but might be used by THE LOCAL (stop shouting) with credit given to the copyright holder.

Honeybaby, there would have been just as much righteous outrage and thread after thread endlessly laying blame and pouting if they did it that way. Well, pretty close anyway.

1. Pointing out that publishing a rival forum on here isn't a good idea, is good. However, it hasn't really been done that I've noticed.
2. Pointing out that the rival forum appears to be a copy of this one ... I agree. I had a look at it for a few seconds and it's obviously a rip off of here and that fact annoyed me. However, in reality, it's the posts which make up the content not the layout. But it will and does fragment the expat community here, and I for one don't like that.
3. [paragraph removed] ... that is all so extremely out of order that it makes me want to ignore my reservations in (2) and swap over. It was very unprofessional behaviour, really. It's the childish post one would expect from someone like, oh ... me! But I'm no forum owner.

Hence the reason for his removal. | | | | | Editor Bob - I'll let others reply with their own views on the subtext and tone of what you sent.
Can you please clarify the comment I highlighted - are you suggesting that this has been done, or merely that you fear that it COULD have been done?
I'd appreciate an urgent response please

Is no secret that i liked eco as a mod. and that I much rather see other mods leave before him. As bad a drama this is, the mention of Economisto's line of work in the post is completely uneccesary.
In that way I please ask you to correct, as it is irrelevant to the conversation. Let's keep this as "Forum Reality" if you will.
P.S: I'm a B-lister on the other forum.

The good news is that for the very first time since this T&C drama, I do now think to press the delete account button. Because if this is the way things are now handle in here, it is not the forum I signed up for.
And it makes me want to follow Eco even more! So I'll guess EB shot is own foot.
