Looking at the stats this morning....

for the last few weeks, its interesting to note that the visiting member numbers didn't change by much (dropped by 3%) but the number of posts dropped by 24%.

The high point in posts was a couple of weeks ago which in itself could have been artificially high, but do we think that this is just seasonal variation....or is it the fact that some 100 + post per week people have moved/resigned/stomped off/walked away (delete on a case by case basis).

If so, apart from being sad and showing that the oft quoted line about it not being possible to have an impact to be false, it is amazing that such a small shift in numbers has such a big impact in quantity (and therefore quality) of this forum

One should never confuse quantity for quality, besides, you need to scroll down farther to see the bigger picture.

Re: Looking at the stats this morning....

funnily enough many of the people that resigned/flounced etc... hardly posted anymore - so I am surprised about the drop in posts

Re: Looking at the stats this morning....

With postings from some users being spread over more than one forum, in my opinion, when it comes to quality and diversity of content, the whole is not equal to the sum of it's parts and appears somewhat diluted - certainly when it comes to the humourous.

he's just being all cryptic, mysterious mod....

I think what he is saying is that he is glad the 100plus members have left EF (although they haven't as i see many still posting here) because they were full of crap anyway and wrote drivel

but he's far too nice to say that

That's good - as so often, we are on the same wavelength

I didn't really understand either.

Of course - vwild1 is right about quality and I'm not sure whether it is a bad thing or not......it was more that I was wondering if it really was that a 3% fall in posters gave a 25% reduction in posts

Very happy to see others interested in numbers
As others have said - a few people are making a lot of posts.
Old Chinese proverb- empty vestal make the most noise.
The other idea is that a few people are keeping the masses entertained. Just like Eastenders (the tv show, not the person ).

I find it interesting which "shorter poppies" pop up, onto the "most posters" list, when the "taller, louder poppies" fade out.
And more interesting getting to know the real person behind the posts, and how different they might be.

To see how posting numbers have changed over a greater period of time. A huge increase.
This slight drop is most likely just seasonal - its at about the same level as July. Holidays also seem to reduce post numbers. See the Christmas period for a greater effect.*

* some might also be getting their "internet fix" elsewhere, but in that case, see the comment about tall poppies leaving and others taking their place.

Well, that's the other thing ......although not sure where you got "100 plus" from ......forget the flounce stats, but the reduction in posters was only 30, so people are still posting here too

The stats don't lie

Only guessing:- by scrolling down, the pattern is consistent with previous years, and roughly drops off a bit during school holidays and rises when the sprogs are back in school .... because forum trolling is more fun than doing jobs around the home.
