Perhaps. But I think this is what breathes life into EF. The 'off topic drivel' serves to counteract the more serious tone of many of the threads.

Seriously now, if anybody else would have announced their flounce they would have been ridiculed (see Bertrand)...but no, since this was linked to the religion thread, everybody gets mooshy and understanding. A nice bunch of hypocrites IMO.

No no no no no! No kidding around. It's been said many times before- EF isn't real life, in real life you can take the piss and kid and have fun, here it causes people to flounce and the rest to mourn. Not acceptable.

I asked a serious question, what's wrong with that? If the number is linked to the order of when people joined, it certainly highlights that Jack has been around since EF started.

My only question for him was: " what set you off in that thread?"

I never read a post from Jack, or at least can't remember. :S

I think it's sad that someone leaves, regardless of old or new.

If the old guard goes, and the new stays or viceversa, it's of really no importance to me; It's the people leaving that bugs me a lil bit.

I beg to differ. What makes 'taking the piss' on here any different to doing it in real life? In fact, as has been discussed ad neaseum, people feel more able to vent their feelings on a forum such as this than in real life.

Quality versus quantity.

Jack has helped a lot of people find sources for different food items.

It's like tagging walls, pissing in corners and saying 'first' on youtube. Jack is telling us about what puts him off, but I read a little further into it and see a mechanism, an engine that runs where people just can't help themselves. I just extended it to both aggressive and playful yet juvenile crap.

While I agree that there might be an unconscious one running here, I don't see how that thread was any indication of said mechanism.

It honestly sounded to me as " Mmh.. search thread... search thread, bible one- oh a utube comment - good. Quote and flounce

More than an actual statement of this being really the last straw.

I care... true he hasn't contributed much lately (and who can blame him) apart from updating his fantastic "Fresh at the market" threads. But that is plenty enough IMO.

You only need to look at his stats to see how popular and what a gent he is. Given 0 groans in 5 years and only received one.... and that on the day he announces he is leaving.
