It honestly sounded to me as " Mmh.. search thread... search thread, bible one- oh a utube comment - good. Quote and flounce
More than an actual statement of this being really the last straw. | | | | | Never mind the other thread, this thread is a train-smash case in point.

| | Re: time to leave the EF... | Quote: | | | | | I was reading some of the posts this morning in the Food section and I decided it was now time to leave the EF after roughly 6 years of participation. I think the real lack of courtesy towards others and the persistence of many members to fill threads with their own twisted brand of humor instead of actually answering questions has finally taken its toll on me. But I think the final act of belligerence came this afternoon while looking through the serious and sincere posting about 'Bible training'...really shameful responses - but unfortunately the standard these days around this community.
I thank everyone for their support over the years and for reading our posts (mostly about food & wine). For those who are interested in keeping in touch with us and reading our continued postings on food & wine, then I would invite you to follow us on Twitter or Facebook...or become a friend on my personal FB page.
Wishing everyone the best...
Jack | | | | | I have to admit I was thinking this very same thing a little while ago and was on the verge of creating a thread about it, but decided not because the I couldnt be bothered with some of the snooty opinions it would attract.
But I have to say, this forum has become very unfriendly especially to new users. Not everybody is a computer pro or shares the same sense of humour and some posts are not at all positive or representative of what I believe this community is supposed to stand for. Also there is so much sarcasm and cynicism that borders on the offensive, maybe not in the posters eyes but for those reading it or who actually just wanted a bit of help with some or other issue.
I hang around because it gives me something to do when I am killing time (which is often) and because sometimes there are amusing, interesting or informative conversations going on, but my involvement is definitely at the minimum. Also the way that people shut down others with divergent views and ideals from their own, I find to be so closed minded. I hope that it will get to the stage where everyone is a little more tolerant of each other and a little more friendly to newbies because this site has so much potential to be helpful but this is often overshadowed by unnecessary (and probably unintended) hostility.
This is not an attack on anyone in particular, but just a general observation of mine. Use it, dont use it. I am just saying is all.

| | Re: time to leave the EF... | Quote: | | | | | It's the people leaving that bugs me a lil bit. | | | | | It's the quality of the people leaving that should be bugging anyone who cares about EF.
Weejeem, Nev, Ittigen, Swissbob, Cata1yst, Jack... the list is growing longer by the day.
Why?
Rather than shrugging off the departure of these well respected and longstanding members as 'flouncing', perhaps we should all take a moment to reflect on our own contributions to the forum and what we have done to drive these people away?
Perhaps it's time for all of us to grow up before this forum degenerates into the 'comments' section at the Daily Mail (if it isn't there already).

Jekyll | | | | | The f*** you talking about...?! Do you even know how many EFers I have helped or offered to help? See, unlike you, I don't driveby groan posts I dislike but choose to actively discuss topics.

Hell, I'd probably still sip on my Jack D's if I hadn't found out about Islay (and everything that follows from there on) - so thanks Jack & Silvia!
