That is where you are wrong, honouring a commitment is pretty high on my list, how pissed would you have been if I sold the bike to someone else.

The anonymity provided by this forum allows some zero accountability or responsibility for their actions, and being polite and courteous is little comfort.
I think his excuse is pretty valid. he was going to buy a bike but then he received one for free. why should he buy your bike if he didnt need it anymore? he did let you know a couple days before and not the same day. I hope you can sell it soon, maybe pm the efers that showed interest?
Good luck with the sell.

Like the present rep system, it will only lead to abuse, grief etc. - thanks for the suggestion.
Have a separate section for disputes and don't allow rep to be given for a sale until the dispute has been resolved.

If one of the parties doesn't comply with the dispute then they get banned permanently.

The current rep system just gives a number, even then you have to look for it. This would be an open system.

You'd need a moderator just for the market section. I'd put myself forward.

At the moment, no. But rest assured that most if not all Mods have seen it, and should you wish to, you may address it to the Admin himself.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

I think this is all overkill. Most forums have a buy/sell section, especially expat ones.

Just like arranging to meet someone for a drink ... if they don't turn up they don't turn up. That's part of the deal the seller has to cope with. Free placing of ads and a good market of buyers. Sometimes they don't show. I really don't think it's a big deal. You want a guarantee? Take it to a second hand shop or sell the stuff on ricardo.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

I suggest that any of you who get upset at buyers cancelling or not turning up don't ever go self employed.

I get people cancel at the last minute on a regular basis.

I would prefer that someone cancelled than pay for something they didn't want any more.

Accept it, get over it, it's not personal, it doesn't matter.

If what you are selling is worth what you are selling it for just re advertise and someone else will buy it...

I realise if you are just selling one or two items it feels different to if you are running a business but it really isn't worth getting upset about.

As far as I'm concerned, items are not sold until the money is exchanged and the buyer is happy with the item they are purchasing, I sold a couple of items and all went smoothly, I do not reserve items and I do not assume it's sold until the money is exchanged or at least a deposit is paid.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

Someone should start an English version of Ricardo. Ricardo is great. the reputation system allows one to see at a glance a person's track record. I use it a lot, mainly to buy and sell things on behalf of clients, as well as privately.

I used to think I was being helpful trying to offer something here first. I still do but people are getting difficult and I just don't have the time or patience. Ricardo is simple.

That is not to say I have not sold quite a few things here, met some very nice people, and the transaction was uncomplicated. However, I have had a few bad experiences and it is really frustrating.

PG, hope you find another buyer.

I know you're annoyed PG, but one thing everyone should learn for these types of sales is that nothing is sold until, like Elvis, it has left the building.

Hope your bike sells soon.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

I believe DH is genuinely sorry for 'ruffling my feathers', and has even bumped the sale thread on my behalf, so you can't say that they aren't trying to make amends which is highly commendable, and most unlike the person on Nasa's thread.

This threads was not a personal thing, DH should be shot and PG distraught, but a specific instance and a general observation of what seams to be a rising trend.

IF you enter into dialogue and say you coming to have a look at something, like it buy it, if not it's not as advertised or just not for you, say thanks but no thanks and walk away no problem with that. Saying your interested and cancelling is a a PITA but happens, no showing is just rude. Saying you want it, agreeing price and collection date/time etc and then not following through is something else.... maybe I'm just to old school.
