unbelievable people ( on EF )

On the back of this thread:
Unhappy with an EF member

I've just had someone do the same thing. This person agreed to buy something I am selling, agreed on the collection date... job done.

In good faith I mark the item as sold on the thread as agreed, I tell other parties the item is sold, and return home early to get the item ready... and get a message to say they have bought something else.

So like the OP on the previous thread I'm miffed at the simple lack of courtesy some people show on here, and the absolute lack of accountability they have for the irritation and aggravation they causemsnmad:

EDIT- And now this isn't deemed a complaint thread, but forum support thread? AFAIAC, the fault is not with the EF just some of the tossers with no respect for other that use it

Re: unbelievable people

totally agree with you.. now, what is it that is available again? I don't know what is the norm for like being late but I try not to and I had waited for someone for 20 minutes with no show then they email me asking me where I am!

In the office, it is like 5 minutes max or you get told off big time! may be someone can confirm what is the acceptable behaviour for the English speaking community in Zurich.

Thank you.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

I'm sorry - i've apologised already. It was not intentional..i didn't have the heart to turn my friend's offer down. If you were in my shoes, you would have done the same thing. At least i had the courtesy to tell you I was sorry that i couldn't get the item. It was a bicycle I agreed to purchase but my friend gave offered me an extra bike she had. So papa goose has an extra bike to sell if anyone is interested. I was suppose to pick it up on Sunday but as I don't need a bike, it was more respectable to let papa goose know beforehand that i was not showing rather than making him wait and me not showing up. That would be even worse.

Regards,
DH

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

I got so many bad experiences. People not showing up, late, like really late, canceling, trying to bargain when already agreed on the price, asking for silly details like pictures and measurement when it is for free, asking me to deliver them and don't even bother to help carrying it. Not even polite enough to thank, list is really long.

That is where you are wrong, honouring a commitment is pretty high on my list, how pissed would you have been if I sold the bike to someone else.

The anonymity provided by this forum allows some zero accountability or responsibility for their actions, and being polite and courteous is little comfort.

Point missed.

I think it's as valid a control as you can have limiting posts by newbies in Market Place, but you mods have no control over the action (or lack of) of buyers.... and that is the current problem.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

However, no item is really sold until the interested party sees the item and pays for it.. they are entitled to show up, see it and say no sorry thought it would be bigger, or smaller, or whatever.. as a result, i never say anything is sold until it is and put all other interested buyers in a queue and then wait to see what happens..

It's dealing with the public, not easy.. and sometimes a potential buyer forgets to ask a vital question and only when the the actual bike, buggy is in front of them do they ask: Oh, by the way, does it..?

Fair play divine_host, at least you have come on this thread and apologised.
I have been messed about a few times too, appointments not showing up etc. (on Yahoo ex-pat) and never received an apology.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

Is it really so surprising or unanständig?

I PM'd the OP about some items for sale but received no response at all(?). What are EF members to make of non-responsive "sellers"?

Seems like a pot/kettle issue from where I sit.

Re: unbelievable people ( on EF )

It must be annoying to agree to sell something and the buyer doesn't turn up, but as long as they let you know (however late) I know it's irritating but what can you do. Maybe they do turn up but look at whatever it is and decide they don't want it. That's the way it is! Just tell anyone else interested that it's now still for sale.

At last you get better treatment than if you just went to a shop.

Unless I have read it wrong Divine Host got in touch a couple of days before he was visiting ( not a couple of hours) so in my mind he was being polite.
Reading what he has wrote - he seems to be upset that he has let you down and at least he had the guts to post and say so...
I have had so many people let me down last minute, never turn up or never give me a messgae that they are unable to attend.
Selling something is always a nightmare - consider it sold when the cash is in your hands!!!

Er yea I actually agree with smackerjack on this one, Papa Goose. She/he simply changed their minds but at least not at the last minute. I had a few people backing out of my laptop sale saying that they will get an iPad for that price instead. Annoying but if they cant tell the difference between an iPad and a laptop, then whatever.

Divine Host, I think you've ruffled the goose's feathers. Good on you for trying to offer to remedy the situation by helping him sell the bike again. He's a good sort, just a tad bit *coughs* grumpy *coughs* - he'll calm down soon.

*ducks*

I've said before that it would benefit EF to have a separate rep/feedback system just for the market place.

Like the present rep system, it will only lead to abuse, grief etc. - thanks for the suggestion.
