Emergency contact.. Englishforum.ch

So I had to go and sleep at the hospital because i was having trouble breathing at night, no matter how I tried to sleep it woke me up the sensation that i had lack of air.
I knew it was just going and sleeping there so I checked who will take care of the kids, left the meals already prepared just to heat in the microwave, let my laptop with my skype account open so my family gets in touch with my friend at home and they see the kids etc.
I get to the hospital, register, not nervous because it was not a big deal etc.
Then they give me the form to fill out and start doing it
name, coco
lastname, nut
etc.
then... Emergency contact.
I just started crying. I have no emergency contact i am separated, the only family I have here are my kids who cant speak yet and the person who is taking care of them doesnt speak english or german to receive an emergency call.
I have only friends that i met on EF events. So I tried to call someone and the call didnt went trough.
At that point the nurse didnt understand why i was shaking and just staring at the piece of paper. I knew it was not going to even be necessary to have an emergency contact it was just sleeping there, no needles or cuts were going to be made, but i felt just so deeply vulnerable for not having an emergency contact.

Then I received the phone call from the person i tried to call before and now I have an emergency contact!!
Thanks F for calling back, you have no idea how much it meant!

For the record its not the lungs, still need to wait for the test result but the quick lung test they made was very good.

For similar reasons we decided to appoint Godparents for our child, it's a bit relieving that we at least have some emergency contact besides us.

Re: Emergency contact.. Englishforum.ch

I can imagine that being a frightening moment for you. For myself, I always put the emergency contact as being my closest family members, even though they are a million miles away. I do that because, if a reeeaaaalllly important decision needs to be made, or if I have dropped dead, then they are the people who need to know and make decisions on my behalf, not friends.

However, I can see the need for someone with dependant children to also have a local emergency friend, in case there is a sudden need for the children to be taken care of. I am glad that you have found one. I hope that the breathing issue resolves itself without any further stress for you. Best wishes.

I just wanted someone local to call in case something happens, but i will ask her to have the contact info of my family, I would not like her to be in the position of making any life changing desicion for me

The official Godparents are mexicans as well, so we decided to appoint an additional pair of locals . This had nothing to do with the Church, we just told them that we wanted somebody to trust while we live here.
