Then this thread should be moved to Language Corner.
Make me a mod. | | | | | Mod test:
This thread has nothing to do with Switzerland so it should be in off-topic. True or False?

if you want to talk about consistency of moderating ( lack thereof ) return to monkeynuts villa thread

I'm not contesting your thead closing, but it is unfair to a forum to use a right to speak that the rest do not, or given the circumstances, cannot have.
As the other example was given. When you close a thread, any thread. And you don't put a close out statement, it is unfair to the rest of the members who cannot just so tacitly terminate a conversation.

I was pointing out that it's possible. yes, given the works of the forum (in my experience) somewhat unlikely but still possible.

Your title says it all: Netiquette. Expected of mods AND posters.
Reputations are meant to be private and Jordan has again made mine public. I feel he's misused the EF Forum's netiquette and has shown little respect towards others.
Ouchboy has asked for an explanation. The mods have explained what has happened. It was a freak coincidence and nothing else. They have acted with dignity.
And most of you do as well.

But thanks for your support, I thought the same. Cheeky beggars | | | | | Lets be clear on this, I have no gripe with you whatsoever. However your conduct on this forum merited a warning, which I duly gave you.
As for the thread being closed it was quite clear that it was just going down the pan - I actually saw it from the beginning, but in the interests of transparency I decided to let it run, but as these threads tend to do, it went down pretty quickly, and started to get personal, therefore it was closed.
No mod is out to get anybody on this forum, in fact I'd say that we are relatively relaxed these days in comparison to the olden days, maybe too relaxed.

Not much to add after that it seems.

The contractions between EF squabble births have become very short.
This is great Lord of the Flies or Battle Royale stuff.
What do these stories have in common? Groups of children trying to dominate each other.
You guys are fantastic!

There appears no EF law in place for this behaviour, which is equally as tit for tat as you put it.

| | Re: Netiquette | Quote: | | | | | No mod is out to get anybody on this forum... | | | | | This is really true. Though something tells me we should put a permanent disclaimer in our siggy for times we have no time to soften our message a bit more diplomatically, communicate better or explain right at that point.
Things will never be 100% transparent for all to see at all times, trust is a good thing. As much trust we have in our members, we expect the same from them, and in 99% it is, which makes housekeeping and all the ugly routine work super worthwhile.
As per mods representing the members..I think we try to stay away from representing anyone, admin, bosses, nor members per se, in order to make unbiased enough decisions. Info gets passed back and forth, and I think it is our main role. Loads of things I feel could be done better, on all fronts. Not sure why there is reappearing "them mods and us" sentiment, every now and then, but it is a tad logical. I think most mods including me probably take themselves as members first, then the afterhours clean up shift.

| | Re: Netiquette | Quote: | | | | | I think most mods including me probably take themselves as members first, then the afterhours clean up shift. | | | | | Thanks for your reply. I cut the last part as it's the core of my observation.
As member that "Ouchboy" is, he can post, edit his post and be banned. All within the grounds of the forum. It applies to all Non-Mod members. Mod X (as to not pinpoint and make it like it's some sort of fault put on any) can do the same, plus close threads, and post after closing. This has been seen before. Mod X, however, cannot be banned. It doesn't matter how bad their actions seem, or something, other mods cannot/will not ban.
Furthermore, members put their name on their actions on this forum. I create a thread, My name is on the OP for ALL to see. If Mod X closes/deletes/moves a thread, it can be done without even the email notification. The action of the Mod is therefore not visible to the forum.
It's an inequal situation, and that's why I am pointing it out.
