And then there were 6...

Nice bit of Photoshop that. Brush size 6 for the background halo and layer mask around the face huh? Good job. I like the sepia touch too and the saline drip effect.

Re: Are we due a Mod announcement?

Longbyt is a lovely hardworking mod, it must have been a lot of work to keep a public forum tidy.

I hope she stays to write

So.. EF.. Editor Bob, who are you going to select ?

We've lost excellent mods Evilshell, Nicky, nathu, Longbyt, vwild1, MathNut and Economisto (thank you Nil !!!!)
Have I missed any ?
Thank you to all of them for their support and work

Re: Are we due a Mod announcement?

Until mods get some compensation for all their work, I'll withhold my vote.

No one deserves to have so much responsibility and to be treated so poorly while modding out of the kindness of their heart only to have someone at the top make money.

It just doesn't seem right.

I'm your top prime cut of meat, I'm your choice,
I wanna be elected,
I'm your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce,
I wanna be elected,
Kids want a saviour, don't need a fake,
I wanna be elected,
We're all gonna rock to the rules that I make,
I wanna be elected, elected, elected.

I never lied to you, I've always been cool,
I wanna be elected,
I gotta get the vote, and I told you 'bout school,
I wanna be elected, elected, elected,
Hallelujah, I wanna be selected sedated,

unless there is a collectively owned board, the money will always go to the guy at the top.

Does anybody really think this place makes money? I know a cinematography forum where the hosting costs exceed $40,000

There must be people here who have a rough idea what it costs to run a forum like this one and what kind of as revenue they bring in, would be interesting to see a guess at what The Local makes on this place. Just out of curiosity.

I'd say this place is pulling in good amounts. Why would the local buy it if it was not commercially viable?

It was an avenue for "The Local" to help disperse up to the minute news.

of course it is!

why is the hosting cost for the cine forum so high? are they hosting videos?

a forum is like an internet goldmine, you just collect the ad revenue and users generate the content.

'Cause they were already in France and Germany and wanted to stitch up the market in between? Lots of businesses get bought and don't make money, I've no idea whether this place does or doesn't; but I am curious what it costs to run this place.

OK, I know a guy running a forum in the UK who brings in 25k after operating costs.

www.avforums.com

Get the balance between membership and advertising right and you're laughing. EF with just Google Ads would bring in over $1000 per month in my opinion.

I want to start a forum called Honest Guilt. The members will be required to register under assumed names and fill their profile with bogus info. It will be like a perpetual motion machine.

Cha-ching!

I wouldn't bother with all the aggravation here for 1K a month, even if it simply meant bending down to pick up the check on the doormat.
